BANGKOK: -- In a bid to speed up the transition to a digital terrestrial TV era, 24-hour news digital TV station Nation TV, is teaming up with One Box Home, a leading manufacturer of digital TV set-top boxes, and other key business partners to offer discount vouchers to subsidise customers who want to buy a complete digital TV receiver set.

"By offering a Bt500 voucher to 10 million households, we hope to help them save their money to get access to an advanced digital terrestrial TV broadcasting service. This would bring them happiness," Eaksakdi Daengdej, chief executive officer at One Box Home, said yesterday.

Eaksakdi added the vouchers would be distributed through its business partners - Thai Life Insurance, Advance Info Service (AIS) and TV Direct - to selected customers. Thai Life Insurance, for instance, has at least 4 million customers, AIS has more than 40 million subscribers and TV Direct has over 2 million members.

He added that customers can use this discount voucher and a Bt690 digital TV coupon provided by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) to buy a "Digital TV One Box Home," a complete digital TV receiver set without extra cost. A complete set covers a digital TV set-top box and antenna, valued at Bt1,190 each.

On October 10, the NBTC will begin giving away 4.6 million of its digital TV coupons to eligible households in 21 provinces. The coupons are expected to arrive at each household on October 15 or 16. One Box Home is among 42 qualified producers of digital TV receivers.

Driven by discount coupons both from the company and the NBTC, the CEO expected about 6 million Digital TV One Box Home set-top boxes would be sold between November and December.

Apart from its business partners, One Box Home is partnering IPM TV, DNA 2020, Thaigo Electric Appliance Industry, and national petroleum giant PTT, which operates PTT Life Stations as distribution channels for digital TV set-top boxes.

Nation TV will promote this marketing campaign through its media network.

Adisak Limprungpatanakij, president of Nation Broadcasting Corporation, said the campaign would not only help speed up the transition to the digital TV era but also stimulate the sluggish market for digital TV receivers.
