I find it hard to believe that those two overcame both David and Hannah. More people were involved. Hannah would've made run for her life or at least started screaming and making noise while they were dragging David to the sea. The numbers simply do not add up.

Multiple scenarios can explain how 2 men could have done this.

Are any of the toxicology reports available. ? I wonder what was in the victims system at the time of death. ? Obviously if they were severely inebriated it would affect their ability to fight back.

It's been reported in the news few days after the incident that semen found inside David's as well. Later on, no one talked about this. Now all old news has been removed from websites.

In the first news they did say david was interfered with. I had thought they might have stopped saying that out of respect for the families.

How many crimes (may) have been committed now?

From the RTP perspective there was a simple open and shut case - we are all aware of their version. This conviction would be in the best interests of many.

However, if subterfuge is to be believed, then it starts to become clear why the RTP seem desperate to convict the accused asap.

The more believable list:

A. A 'gang rape', something which has happened many times before. Strong suspicion of 4 or more locals, perhaps a westerner rumored to have a past history of grooming potential victims. Strong possibility the victim was drugged, but a toxicology report was 'withheld to protect the reputation of the victims'.

B. Double murder, carried out with extreme malice. Likely two or more attackers. Case does not explain stab wounds to the face and neck of the male victim. Supposed murder weapon does not have male victim's DNA. Crime scene reconstruction contradicted official findings that hoe was not used on male victim.

C. Evidence tampering: the real murder scene was compromised, it appears to have been orchestrated to suit the current version of events. DNA from the victim found on a cigarette butt has led to much discussion, but it was most likely put there after the crime. Confusion exists regarding mobile phones and victims clothing. Everything was altered, not to fool experts - all they wanted was to fool the mainland police and press, nobody else ever pays attention... Pertinent cctv footage was edited, and there is no way of knowing if all footage was released. Suspicion remains about the integrity of the evidence the family member used to prove his absence.

D. Crime scene compromised. Police allowed prominent locals to enter the scene. Also graphic photos of victims leaked to the general public (thank goodness) causing public opinion to be swayed.

E. DNA handling compromised. So much said already, but what is not said may be more relevant - a news report on channel 3 had an interview wherein a police official claimed there was a third sample identified - saliva on the female victim's torso. This was omitted from the case.

F. Perversion of justice. At some point it must have become clear the story was falling apart. Either cctv footage, or a partial (70% ?) DNA match was found to implicate a prominent family member. At this point the police investigator in charge, Lt-General Panya Mamen was replaced and the Myanmar accused were arrested. A vital witness was allowed to leave the country, regardless he bore wounds remarkably similar to one of the victims and was rumoured to be involved in criminal activities on KT. The accused were not afforded legal representation and the translator used was ethnically unsuitable and is working illegally under police protection on the island.

G. Extortion and Immigration fraud: It was revealed that of 7,000 migrant laborers on the island, only 4,000 were legally registered, the rest were subjected to police extortion. Western tourists are known to work illegally, under the protection of the local police.

H. Conspiring to aid a criminal: Anyone who is aware that the missing family member was present is complicit by not coming forward. These people should be charged. Likewise for any witnesses to an altercation involving the deceased. Any person having photographic or video footage showing Sean McAnna without wounds between 9-15 September would be concealing vital evidence.

Welcome to Koh Tao, where a family's reputation can be more important than the entire country's.

out of respect i have not looked, but did today. Whoever did that was a very angry man. Even in rape the perpetrator often has sympathy for the victim and covers them or tries to show some empathy for the victim.

But not here. I understand why people say the guy lost face.

Things changed so quickly from RTP searching for the suspect who had run to BKK and his father and uncle being hauled in for questioning to the complete turnaround and cover up.

Whatever was said in that meeting must have gone a long way up the tree to cause this kind of concerted effort of a cover up.

I have only seen close-up of the wounds inflicted on David. Absolutely no doubt in my mind he was stabbed many times, in what must have been a frenzied attack. A psychopath who may have done this before and as you say may attack an innocent again.

Thankfully I have avoided the photos of Hannah. It would be just too distressing, even reading some of the descriptions has been upsetting and I have landed up ignoring anyone discussing in detail.

I do admit, the photos are what galvanized everyone's attention and exposed the farce for what it is. If they had kept it nice and quiet it would still have been a shocking murder but the perpetrators would have been caught and sentenced, and tourism numbers would increase.

The officer you refer to got replaced, if I remember rightly. He would be pretty hacked off if he was trying to do his job to the letter of the law and was replaced by someone who, shall we say would "tow the line"

And my 2 cents about why Burmese are probably guilty: Sex is very cheaply available for Thais, and they don't desire farang women at all. No Thai would take the risk of jail time or even death sentence just to have sex. On the other hand, Burmese are saving money, every satang is important to them. So probably they don't have access to cheap sex. Also because of their colonial past, probably they are more into farang women. It makes perfect sense that they were the true suspects.

Several times farang women have been raped (and even 1 has been killed after that) by Thai men.
Just 1 year ago, 4 Thai men kidnapped 2 Russian ladies, raped them.. in Pattaya.
