Extending O visa

Featured Replies

Following everyone's helpful feedback we have now obtained my multiple-entry O-A visa in the UK (based on retirement) and a single entry O visa for my UK wife and we will soon be heading for Thailand.

I understand that after 45/60? days we can go to Tha Immigration to extend my wife's visa to match the same expiry date of my O-A visa ie 25th September 2015.

We are planning on visiting Vietnam in May/June 2015 for a few days which I understand will then extend both of our permitted to stay dates until May/June 2016 when we return to Thailand from Vietnam.

We will subsequently return to the UK in June/July 2016 and return in late October 2015.

We may also make other trips outside of Thailand but I am basing my questions on the scenario above to try and keep it simple.

1. When my wife seeks her extension of stay in Hua Hin what should she obtain to cover our trip to Vietnam - I will be OK as I have a multi entry O-A?

2. I understand that as we will not be in Thailand when my O-A expires/ my wife's extension expires we will need a re-entry permit? How much does this cost?

3. On our return to Thailand do we go to Hua Hin immigration to obtain our extensions of stays within 30/45 days of our permitted to stay dates of May/June 2016? At this stage can we both apply for multi re-entry permits?

Thanks for everyone's help.

You wife's extension of stay will be equal to your current permit to stay when she applies for it not to the date your visa expires.

She will need a re-entry permit anytime she wants to travel.

When her extension is near to ending she will need to apply for a new extension that would be equal to your permit to stay at that time.

After your visa expires you will need a re-entry permit to keep your permit to stay valid.

Before the permit to stay for your last one year entry you will need to apply for an extension of stay at immigration by showing the required financial proof. Your wife would then apply for a dependent extension based upon your extension of stay.
