Marriage in UK, divorcing in Thailand

Featured Replies

I have been married for 12 years to a Thai national. We married in the UK and lived there until 2006 when we both came to live in Thailand. We did not marry in Thailand. (2 children aged 7 and 10 are living with my Thai wife); we are separated for nearly 2 years now.

Can we divorce in Thailand? Is it straightforward? Thanks in advance.

I reckon you could as long as your marriage has also been registered here (at the amphur) and you clearly reside here, too -- Uk marriage cert' would obviously need translating/certifying. Possible that you would have to go through the courts even if uncontested as you were married overseas. Might be worth both heading to the local amphur for advice and also emailing the UK as to procedure in cancelling out that end once the deed is done.

Congrats, btw, hope it works out. wink.png
