What's this?: Can I eat it?
Giant African Land Snail. Invasive pest has parasites that can infect people. Do not eat, toxic I've eaten snails (escargot) in a French restaurant. They are purged before considered safe for consumption. -

Rising Baht Sparks Fears of Another 'Tom Yam Kung' Crisis
It makes perfect sense that the baht would appreciate vs the Dollar when the Fed cut rate and BOT did not. However what doesn't make sense is why the BOT did not cut rates - Thai inflation is well below the target inflation (%1-3). They should've cut rates even before the Fed did, and now even more so than before. If they don't they'll be essentially sending Thailand into deflation. -

How many here on the Farang Pub hope to die in Thailand?
It may be free in some european countries, but from all I'm hearing and reading the standards are abysmal, with long delays for non-urgent treatment or testing and deadly delays for emergency treatment (people regularly dying while waiting in Casualty, or being sent home with incorrect diagnoses to soondie). In Asia I have NEVER had to wait to be seen by a Dr in an emergency, and have never been put on a waiting list to get non-urgent treatment. Sure, I have Med Ins and pay for it big time, but you know what they say about free stuff? It's worth exactly what you paid for it. Nothing. -

Destination Thailand Visa Sparks Interest, Faces Future Hurdles
Well you can't work in Thailand on a DTV other than abroad remote work, so any money earned doesn't need to be paid into a thai bank account. I can just take a short flight to another country, withdraw up to $20'000 USD from my Guernsey bank account where my company dividends are paid and Thailand can't trace or tax it. If I decide to pay tax in Thailand then I won't pay the 35% tax rate while the services received don't justify it. -

Rising Baht Sparks Fears of Another 'Tom Yam Kung' Crisis
I don't deny that is true and never have, they almost certainly do buy some currencies at different points. What I said, which everyone seems to have ignored, is not that Visa doesn't buy currency but that exports provides the vast majority of foreign currency for Thailand, substantially more than tourism ever could.- 1

Hezbollah Leader Hassan Nasrallah Reportedly Killed in Beirut Airstrikes
Hezbollah customarily using muslim civilians as human shields, and none has anything to say, especially from the pro-Palestinian field. Iran supplies the Hezbollah the weaponry to hit Israeli civilians but, with regards to the Hezbollah's infrastructure defense, it expects the Shia Lebanese population to volunteer their families and themselves as human shields. -

Do you know Ben Bartree?
Some of you may be familiar with the website Zerohedge.com It was originally a finance centred website with useful articles and debates on economic issues, many of the contributors were knowledgeable. Unfortunately it later morphed into a political forum (with a finance leaning) and a lot of the current contributors are nutcases. I still read it because some of the articles are still useful, and it tends to be ahead in the news cycle. One of the regular article writers is a guy named Ben Bartree, and his tagline says he is an American author, based in Bangkok! Is he on this forum? Does anyone here know him? -

Rising Baht Sparks Fears of Another 'Tom Yam Kung' Crisis
True, but once the equilibrium is out of balance and there's much more demand for one currency than transactions from that country, they do have to buy, in extreme situations, which is what we're considering here.
