Myanmar murder suspects escorted to Samui court for extended detention

KOH TAO: -- Two Myanmar rape murder suspects were this morning escorted by the police from Phangan island to Samui island for permission from the court to detain them 12 more days for further questioning.

Win or Wepew, 21, and Cholin or Soren, 21, both of Arakanese ethnics, were handcuffed and taken on board a speed boat from Phangan island to Koh Samui under protection by about 10 police, both in uniforms and plainclothes.

The travel to Ban Nathon pier on Samui took three hours. Both were later put in car to the Samui provincial court.

The police sought 12 days from the court to further detain the two suspects with reason that the 48 hours allowed by law to detain them has expired while they still needed more time for questioning.

The police said they would officially indict the two suspects on October 8.
The two suspects were seen to be very exhausted as they have been questioned throughout the night.

While at Samui police station, Win, a prime suspect, who spoke little Thai as he has been working on Koh Tao for three years, admitted to the murder of David miller and raping and killing of Ms Hannah Witheridge.

Another suspect, Mao, was not escorted to the court today as the police have booked him as the witness to the case.

Mao was playing guitar with the two suspects but left to see his girlfriend before the murder took place.

Earlier he was also charged, but after the two confirmed he was not involved, and DNA test did not match the samples collected on the victim’s body, the police freed him but still kept him as witness.

Hang on...I thought they had been charged? And they already conducted the media circus crime re-enactment?

Requesting 12 more days of detention because the 48 hours has expired?

Confusing.

Might want to slow down on those rewards...sounds like they may be a bit premature.

Why the need for extended detention, if the proof is there? xsick.gif.pagespeed.ic.tVTSNn-2vr.png

Quite simply, because it's not, and the whole world of Thai policing now plays a major role, watched by the world's media.

It is simply the legal process. There is only a finite time police can hold a person without the court's approval.

But since they have confessed and the DNA test is positive, the court would have no problem to indict them right away, isn't it ?

Questioned throughout the night..... Should more likely read learnt their script throughout the night.

Also changed their DNA during the night.

Do you always come down on the side of the establishment in every single topic without fail ?

just curious

The police said they would officially indict the two suspects on October 8...

So they havnt been charged yet.... yet the PM is out there along with god knows how many other officials speaking of congratulations .. guilt and all the rest proven no charges made...

So they have 12 days more to work out how to link all this with credibility.... good luck with that because the next 12 days will see a heck of a lot more people looking into this now..

We've already had threats from police and from what im hearing some Thai sites and forums that could previously be posted on are now blocked to people outside Thailand wanting to post... pathetic really

Expect to see more attempts at muzzling forums and talk if its not towing the party line or becoming embarrassing.

Good post as always - but it's 'toeing' the line, btw. I know, pathetic pedant stuff, but it's a little bugbear of mine. Genuine apologies for being so petty as to feel the the need to bring it up....

They "confessed", no?

"The two suspects were seen to be very exhausted as they have been questioned throughout the night."

"Police officers then led the two to a safe-house where they were intensively interrogated." wai2.gif wai.gif giggle.gif

From a previous report.

"under protection by about 10 police"

Protection from whom I wonder?

It's quite common to protect murderers in Thailand from locals who would attack them without the police protection.

Yes I still believe we have a DNA match.

Every move the police make on this episode just makes them look worse and worse.

Come on lads the whole world has seen thru this mess you have made, maybe time to let the innocent go and get the real deal ?

You know who killed these kids and where they are, why not stop thinking we are all as dumb as you and go get them ?

All you care about is getting the money spenders back on the island and back to Thailand, well I'm pretty sure the longer you carry this joke on the less chance there will be for that to happen.

Get someone to talk to Sean Mckanna. he seems to have run into hiding very quickly. Where is he? Why hasn't he been open (as he was on FB) since he was taken back home? You don't stay in hiding for three weeks.

Those kids look like they are in never never land. Sort of strutted in front, like a best in breed cow show.

Rights group arranges lawyers for Myanmar men

A team of lawyers has been sent to help the two migrant Myanmar workers being charged with murdering two British tourists and raping one of them on Koh Tao, a prominent activist for the rights of migrant workers said yesterday.
(The Nation - http://www.nationmultimedia.com/national/Rights-group-arranges-lawyers-for-Myanmar-men-30244775.html )

Hope this isn't too late, and they get some sence into the whole thing.

How sad, absolutely no evidence it was a Thai let along a Thai from a wealthy family but it doesn't stop people from refusing to believe the overwhelming evidence against this pair including their friend being a witness against them, people seeing them near the scene at the time, video footage, confessions, one of the victims phones found at their place and or course their DNA which was a match to the semen collected at the scene and which was share with Singapore.

Unless these two not only die but have their bodies disappear as well as their family, their DNA will be around to be tested again with that on file in Singapore by whomever will want to test it.

Everyone has the right to a fair trial, lets see what happens now that the Burmese suspects have somebody representing them shall we?

I cant see what your problem is , are you being forced to read the 'pathetic' comments of the members here ?

If you are convinced that this investigation is 100% then all will be fine , but if its not then maybe those you despise will have helped prevent an appalling miscarriage of justice. Im no conspiracy theorist but it is plain that all is not as claimed , I would call it deluded to just accept the official line.
