I have a Non Immigrant ED visa until July 2015, I will be 50 years in February 8 2015, what I wonder is if I can switch to retirement from ED (And yes a have pension from Norway) or must I get out of Thailand and get a new Non Immigrant O.

Many new rules now or are the only here in Phuket they have new rules?

Best Regards

If you have a multiple entry ED visa you could do an extension of stay based upon retirement during the last 30 days of any of the 90 entries you get from the visa after you turn 50.

If you have an extension of stay for attending school you should be able to change the reason for your extension to retirement after you turn 50. I have seen no reports of Phuket not doing them yet. There have been reports of other offices not doing it since the rules changed for getting education extensions.

Thank`s UbonJoe,

You cannot buy a mufti for an existing visa from an embassy or consulate.

You apparently have an extension of stay you got from immigration. As far as I know at this time you will be able to change the reason for that extension to one based upon retirement.

In Phuket I do know that you cannot change an existing ED extension to any other visa. You must leave the country and either return to Thailand with a Visa Exempt, VOA, a Non Immigrant 'O', or a TR 60,. Please also know that to apply for a Non 'O' here on the back of a Visa Exempt or VOA etc you must have at least 21 days left on the entry stamp. If not your application will be rejected. Applications as mentioned above will also not be accepted within any extension period.

This is just curiousity now.

When you said "Applications as mentioned above will also not be accepted within any extension period.", were you referring to just ED visas?

Or is that the case for all Non Imm./TR visas, that you can't change the visa type if you have an extension?
