Safest drive Pilok to Nong Khai ?

Featured Replies

Cost time unimportant.

Looking on maps there are varous routes.

Google suggest along route 12 to Khon Kaen is this all or mostly first class divided highways?

Thanks for your ideas .I'm happy on Mt Rds here in strong pick up but a tad more cautious after dark on the distant highways,I aim to leave dawn and hope to arrive before dusk

Ban Pilok in KanchanaburI?

First route by Google would lead via Kanchanaburi and north of Bangkok to highway #2 via Khon Kaen and on to Nong Khai.

#2 is four lane separated national highway.

More than 900 km ! Thats an exhausting distance for a day trip.

If this is the wrong Ban Pilok you would have to check the spelling or give some details (province, amphoe).

Phitsanulok, he means, just stay on Highway 12, straight there in about 3Hrs 30 mins if you don't stop. Nice Run.

Ouch!

Yep, #12 is easy.

And yes it is easier to use #12 to Khon Kaen and then #2 (look out for the western bypass to Udon and not drive to Khon Kaen center).

The shorter (about 60 km) route is via #228 (left at Chum Phae).

"My road". But 70 km of exhausting 2 lane road on the way to Udon.

Cant figure Google time scale, they give a time of 1H 30Mins for my home run,yet it only takes my Mrs 30 Mins dithering along at 50.w00t.gif ..Garmins realistic and so is Honda O.E. gps. Give that Left a miss for sure, does the bus go that way to miss the Climb.?.

Beware of the roadworks on H12.

Thanks is this a one off or a long term job/

I hope to travel to Laos on 23rd when assured traffic lighter due to holiday returning Tuesday 28th when holiday revellers should have finished long weekend.

Is there a better route H 12 seems the mainone on Google and my paper maps?

Joined 12 from Khao Kho heading west 2 days ago and the first 35kms or so are torn up and best avoided. They are resurfacing and also extending to 4 lanes. Its drivable but not exactly fun depending on your vehicle.

Long term? Yup a huge project.

and the first 35kms or so are torn up and best avoided

But is there a realistic way to get around this? I don't think so.

Not familiar with the area but Google offers up a more northern route that passes just south of Loei (11, 1296, 1143.....) but no dea on feasability.

Thanks all I doubt they'll be finished this month knowing the Thoeng dual carriageway has been underway for several years since at least 2011
