Familyonthemove
Bought at the Central World bike show - light use - I know it's not a safety critical area but does not inspire much comfidence. Any recommendations for a reasonably light/cool short boot available in Bangkok?
Ozgur
I have Alpinestars shoes and bought them at A* shop on rama 4. They feel very comfortable and have heel protections. They are not so well protected though. But good for city ride and look fashinable. Mines are black, paid 5000thb.
JonnyF
I use AlpineStars SMX around Bangkok. Pretty comfy, reasonable protection for a short boot and look fairly normal with jeans when you get off the bike... About 5000 Baht...
RubberSideDown
I also wear the SMX-1 boots on a lot of rides- it's the best short boot, IMHO, and comfortable enough if you have to walk around a bit.
H1w4yR1da
Short boots, while more comfortable and easier to walk in, offer no protection in the event of the foot being twisted either left to right or up and down in an accident. There is some protection for the foot and ankle area but not from any impact or trauma to the ankle joint itself. Personally I always wear Sidi or Forma calf-length boots, even on short trips. Some, as one, (now thankfully banned) troll said, it's like dressing up as Darth Vader which I consider a very strange attitude towards gearing up.
Popular Post ll2
next to Dainese bangkok shop, there is another shop selling motorcycle wear gear. https://www.google.co.th/maps/place/Dainese+ProShop+%7C+Bangkok/@13.8016109,100.6177443,16z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x30e29d8bd22aabcf:0x7c3f4b40876b205f they have short and long Puma riding boots for 1500 thb and 3000 thb. i got a long boot with gore-tex for only 1500 thb! also check paddock as they always have discounts on Sidi boots but sidis you look like spaceship trooper in normal life and soem might not liek it. puma's more trendy. But most of the time, i wear my sidi vertigo boots as well i got these for 1500 thb and full gore tex and can tuck it under the jeans:) and these, i bought it for gf at 3000 thb: they have different colors and other models too. good value for the price but sure not super durable. rambling
Maybe check out TCX, they're a top brand and available in several shops here, such as this: http://www.ninja-shop.net/product.php?subcat=199 I wear Alpinestars SMX-6 Perforated. After about 1,000 Km they became super comfortable, very easy on/off, but don't flow much air and they've broken-in to a degree that the ankle area isn't really stiff anymore. In fact I think my hiking boots have stiffer ankle protection. I'm in the market for a sturdier boot, might try Sidi.
RubberSideDown
^ If you like Alpinestars, check out their Supertech R boots- I've got a pair, and the ankle protection is excellent- the Sidi Vortice are really nice as well (I also have a pair of them and they're a bit heavy- the new Mag-1 boots are worth a look and are lighter). The Astars sizing is spot on for me so Supertech might fit the bill but the new Mag-1 look verrrry interesting, lots of good reviews and lighter is a plus, as is the big front toe vent. I will try to find them in-store somewhere so I can try them on.
Familyonthemove
Thanks all! Looks like I need to look at the big brands and pay a bit more this time. I think Paddock in Bangkok have a decent range of Alpinestars?
H1w4yR1da
Paddock does good prices at sale time on footwear, albeit older models.
Ozgur
The best A* selection is at A* shop on Rama 4. All new models and very nice store. They have 10% off the barcode value.
mania
I bought this model from Panda Rider over a year ago Still in top shape Made by TCX 5900 baht I will say they are very comfortable & offer decent "street" protection waterproof lining, nice heel cup, toe reinforced where needed etc. TCX actually has quite a few nice street or race boots at various price points & Panda is 1st class to work with even by phone or email. The sent these quick & inexpensively via ems to CM for me. They have many others too like these 2014 X-Square & X-Square Evo models for 4400 baht Edited October 14, 2014 by mania
