Meteorological Dept. warns of risks from heavy rain till end of week

BANGKOK, 15 October 2014 (NNT) - Residents in eight southern provinces have been warned of risks from heavy rain until the end of the week.

The Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued its sixth announcement to warn about heavy rain forecast on the eastern coast of the South and strong wind in the Gulf of Thailand.

Such conditions are expected as a result of the low pressure trough over the lower part of Thailand’s southern region and the moderately strong northeast wind over the Gulf of Thailand and the South.

The weather bureau said that scattered downpour and heavy rain will likely hit Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat.

Residents in these provinces have accordingly been advised to be vigilant about possible risks as a result of heavy downpour and rainfall accumulation until October 16.

In addition, with moderate wind and two-meter waves also forecast in the Gulf of Thailand, fishermen are warned to be more cautious while at sea especially when waves can go higher during thunderstorm.
