Complete Visa-Confusion

Featured Replies

So we're a group of five Swedish backpackers currently in Thailand with a visa exemption valid until October 27th, but we would love to stay until November 8th. Now here's a few things I've heard;

You can get your visa extended for 7-10 days for 1900 baht. (Unfortunately not enough time for us).

A friend of mine who lives in Thailand told me you can only enter Thailand thrice (once by air and twice over land) after which you have to wait 90 days before your next entry. But this can't possibly be true for all visas? Perhaps only concerning visa exemptions?

And I've also read you can get a 60 day tourist visa and re-entry permits at thai embassies in neighbouring countries.

So we were wondering what the best course of action would be;

Do we go for two visa extensions since we need 12 extra days?

Do we go for one extension and then overstay a few days?

Do we cross the border into Laos and re-enter for a fresh 15-day visa exemption? But will this create problems for us if we want to travel through Thailand again later on in our journey, seeing as how we will then have reaches our supposed limit of entries.

Or do we go for a 60 day tourist visa? Can you apply for one of these from within Thailand? As far as I've understood they're cheaper than the extensions.

Any help appreciated!

Many thanks

Exit and return and get another 15 days entry.

As I understand it we falang are now a days allowed to extend our tourist excempt VISAS with ADDITIONAL 30 days.....

So you should be just fine timewise......Just go and extend at the Immigration.. That is IF you did arrive via AIR of course,..

Wrong???

How one has entered doesn't matter to get an extension.

OK great, thanks for that, I didn´t know!! So even if you enter via land and have a 15 day tourist excempt VISA you still can extend another 30 days???

Wow, thanks!

That's a load of my mind! ?

Have any of you heard anything about a limit for how many times you can enter Thailand during a specific amount of time?
