i'm not having a pop here by the way, just stating a fact that city are paying over the odds for players because a] they can afford to and b] they have to to attract good players to make the jump from midtable to top bracket. just as chelsea did five years back.

I know your'e not having a pop Stevie and I know we are probably paying over the odds but we've got a lot of catching up to do :)

I could name plenty, but all outside of the Premiership. But that's not what you mean is it. Citeh are now equal to Chelsea , who as you know superceded Man u as the most despised team for the very reason that Citeh are now doing, excessively buying success. At least when Blackburn temporarily did the same , it was with money invested by a Blackburn supporter. Distasteful as it still was though.

You're just going to have to live with this. Once you were quit admired for your passion and living in the shadow of your rivals. But believe me when I say that the reverse is generally now the case and the attitude of your supporters has only gone to fuel the flames of this. As if that needed doing anyway, but I've read it elsewhere

wouldn't say that's true at all. chelsea and city just throw ludicrous amounts of money at greedy clubs and greedy players, haven't seen any evidence of the underhand tapping up employed by united over the years yet.

I don't know any more than you about that. But it seems odd that Lucas Neil , for instance is now being rumoured to go to Citeh after refusing a new contract at West Ham. Even if this doesn't transpire, then if you dug deep enough I'm sure that would have been the case with others.e.g. Barry. It goes on with all these greedy merchandise outfits/playthings of the obscenely rich.

Truth hurts doesn't it. But perhaps you wouldn't know it if it slapped you in the face. But I really don't know why you're so uptight - I mean it's not like Citeh have ever been your local team or anything inniit ... :)

I could name plenty, but all outside of the Premiership.

So, your full of <deleted> then. Thought so :D

I guess that you must be right. And that's why I support a bigger club other than my little local one. Glory hunter. :D

If you knew anything about me, you'd know that I was born about 5 miles from Man City's ground and supported them for 45 years. Over that time I have had great misery, to the point where i hated my father for taking me there :D and so it's been a roller coaster of emotions. I only moved to Rochdale just over 20 years ago, so not a life long fan, just have a soft spot for them. :D

BTW. It was me who started this very thread about 3 years ago, way before Thaksin and the Abu's had come in. :D

OK, fair do's. I thought that you were from Rochdale, of little Alan Taylor fame. Owns a paper shop in Narrwich nowadays, btw.

It was me who started this very thread about 3 years ago, way before Thaksin and the Abu's had come in. :D

My comments about Thaksin weren't directed at all towards you, if that's what you mean. But towards another Citeh supporter (can't remember who exactly) that said he didn't give a <deleted> about his human rights track record, etc. As long as it brought Citeh success. Disgustingly, that was also the attitude of many of your supporters. But more so coming from someone who either lives in, or visits Thailand regularly.

Peace

you can't complain about that one, united got 12m for doing nothing! :)

i suppose a few of chelsea's deals with russian clubs have stunk a bit, as did their paying stupid prices to porto for ferreira and carvalho as a way of compensating them for nicking mourinho. haven't seen anything from city yet really which marks them out as being anything other than absolutely stinking rich, perhaps garry cook's behaviour towards ac milan last season notwithstanding.

Which reminds why J&D has STILL got me on " ignore " for.... :D

Not my business to get in the middle of a lover's row, and i know none of the details which led to the "cold war", but it saddens me to see two of my favourite members on here estranged.

Any chance of a kiss and make up between the two of yer?

We've hardly spent anything in comparison to the the top 4.

But you spent a lot more then you made, which is the point you seem unable to grasp.

If it werent for Arab money you'd be doing what you did a few years back ie Divvy 3 after Thaksins failure and last seasons spending spree.

You can just feel the knife twisting in to make sure the last breath of dignity in top flight football has completely died out with this Man City charade.

Saying that i always thought the Olympics would be far more intersting if a few athletes were all roided up, to give them the edge.

Ignoring people is the easy way out, stay & face the Music & listen to what others have to say, especially when it's the truth.. :D

We didn't have a spat anyway, he just stuck up blindly for his Club like Thousands do & i just pointed out badness by a Club Employee that he refused to accept, that's all.... :D

Apparently Upson & Barry have had a bit of a Tiff for England in Fridays Training..

Sorry but where have i ever mentioned that. I am more than well aware of that point and can grasp it very well thank you. But maybe we need to look at who are the teams in the biggest debt in the Premiership :D

We just think the complete opposite sides of the spectrum when it comes to this money lark and i'm never going to be able to change your point of view, i would gladly see Man City at the top of the league as theyve always a good loyal support who deserve to win something but if it were done the old way ie good management from top down ... but this vast amount of money being spent takes away a sporting chance for others.

Man U and Liverpools debt is what the owners used to buy the clubs with not what theyve used to spend on players, this is the difference ... these clubs have had their spending power curbed due to their respective owners.

Newcastle could possibly have gone into liquidation before Mike Ashley came along so maybe theyd have got relegated anyway, and Chelsea definitely would have before Abramovich came along due to cheating by spending money they couldnt pay back. Many Newcastle fans want some Arab to come over on his flying carpet and drop billions into the club so they can do what Chelsea and Man City do, me personally i'd prefer to carry on being sh7te then have this happen, but unfortunately youre right in what you say that this is the only way to be able to compete at the very top as Wengers trophyless last few seasons have proved.

Without doubt the Champions League money has made Premier League football less of a competition they should address this to make football more competitive, then there wouldnt be as much need for these billionaires.

In the final analysis, I don't think that there's any need for you to win the erudite and foresighted points that you make. History I'm sure will prove you, and others who can see a time when the <deleted> hits the fan , to have been correct. In many ways it's like those who had predicted that the world , and Britain in particular , would be in all sorts of problems when the balloon that is the casino of deregulated capitalism bursts. Not least because unless you make the rubber to produce the balloon in the first place then you'll not have another to float. The other half of , what has now become the footballing City of Greed, Manchester United, have debts in excess of £700 million The only way that Glazer could ever gain a return on this, is by either selling the assets in order to realise his investment, or simply to jump ship and sell the club off at a loss. But even the latter option is easier said than done, as Mike Ashley has been finding out over the past half year. But there is no doubt in my mind that there will come a time when Manchester City will again find themselves desperately looking for another super rich owner , or owners, to bail them out. Sadly, next time there may not be any such erstwhile saviour wanting to take the risk.

In a sense, this may be a victory for us traditionalist who value the game for only it's beauty, history and roots. But perhaps more so as the only option left would be, although not perfect, a type of Barcelona ownership wherein the supporters own a great deal of the club. If it's not too late by then. Unfortunately though, I don't see any Manchester City supporters who have the critical faculties to even think about the consequences of the way their ship is headed, nor even care. It's always been the way of instant gratification that those who only grab what's laid before them are unable to see the bus that's coming around the corner.

Coincidentally, just after posting the above I came across this article from the Guardian expressing a very similar perspective as my general points. You really don't need to read the runes.

i thought united debt is the clubs debt now before the gimps took over we where debt free they bought enough shares to be he majority share holders and when they obtained the majority they wasw the able to transfer the debt on to the club a very shrewed move.

they have put <deleted> all in to the club if it was not for having fergie in charge it could have gone all tits up.

even now with 700 mill debt we are on the edge like a few other clubs.

wedid not want them at the club and they are not welcome near old trafford, also like to add liverpool with there chants of usa and usa flags taunting us, and then turn around and open there a**e to the yanks, som num na!

Fom skysports:-

It is reported that two high-profile clubs attempted to hijack Portsmouth's takeover by Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim.

Third parties claiming to represent the interests of Newcastle United and West Ham approached Al-Fahim when hearing of his planned investment.

From skysports:-

Barry seeks 'major honours'

Midfielder gives Villa fans reasons for decision

Gareth Barry believes his new club Manchester City will become a force to be reckoned with as he reveals his reasons for leaving Aston Villa.

The England international moved to Eastlands on Tuesday in a shock £12million deal after spending 12 years at the midlands club.

After intensive speculation that he would join Liverpool last summer, few predicted that Barry would go elsewhere, if anywhere, this year with the Merseyside club reportedly still interested this time around.

However, Barry did not want a long-running transfer saga this summer as he suffered last year, and revealed to Villa fans his reason for joining the Eastlands revolution.

"Once I had spoken to (City manager) Mark Hughes there was nowhere else I wanted to go. I was also desperate to avoid any long, drawn-out saga," Barry told the Birmingham Mail.

"I feel I am joining a club that will seriously challenge to win major honours.

"People might doubt that but I am convinced, with the plans the club has short-term and long-term and the backing the manager will receive from the owners, that we will be a major force.

"I have honestly been very undecided what to do, the (Villa) manager (Martin O'Neill) and the whole club have bent over backwards to try and persuade me to stay and made me a fantastic offer, which I am extremely grateful for."

He continued: "I need a new challenge, I have a massive fear of going stale and falling into a comfort zone.

"I believe the deal is a good one for the club. I am sure the manager will use the money well to strengthen the team and the club will go from strength to strength. I am also excited now about my new challenge."

You're entirely wrong there. I was publically speaking out against the way West Ham were going as far back as 2006-7 . I saw this as a loss of our tradition. I did subsequently see Magnusson as a slight respite in all this. But my sympathies are more in line with, e.g. United of Manchester and FC Wimbledon, etc. Than wishing to see West Ham succeed at any cost. It's no good throwing any presumption as selling our soul as being a good thing and anything that I'd welcome. That is for the Sky generation in the main. I really don't think that you understand how deep these traditional connections go MR.BJ.

Agree 100%.. For me personally & contrary to poular belief ( :) ), the Football club is in my Club, both sides of my Family are West Ham through & through, Dad's Side & Mum's side, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins & even as far back as my Great Grandparents of which one of my Dad's Prized possesions is a Thames Ironworks Programme ( well more like a Leaflet than a Programme that we know ), from 1899..... :D

It's rooted deeper for us than it seems to some others & to suggest that winning for us is what we're after is a nonsense & that doesn't make us better or anything, i'm just saying it how it is.

But City are a real Club too with deep rooted traditions, i know that, & so are their Fans who are overall top notch..

& that's why it worries me ( i know i sound like a broken record b8t i genuinely feel strongly about it ) that they don't lose those traditions due to this new founbd wealth..

However, i'd prefer them to clean up than a lot of others that could have got the $, that's for sure.. :D

That's where you'd be dead wrong HH. But sometimes you have to move with the times, or you end up in the Conference League and I love my club too much to want to see that. If you like to call that selling your soul, so be it but West Ham sold out to an Icelander and now they are looking at an American consortium or such like. So in reality, you have already sold your soul, you just didn't get much money for it. :)

That's very true, but it still doesn't make it right & if it was up to me personally, which it isn't & i can't do anything about it, we wouldn't have done but as the Red Scousers have recently been saying, sadly there is no one from East London, like Merseyside, with the sort of $$ to compete in the modern day Premiership....
