BANGKOK, Oct 23 -- The son of an aging Japanese man murdered in Thailand has thanked the police for their quick investigation into his father's disappearance.

Despite the loss, the son said he still had positive impressions of Thai people.

Tetsuo Shimato, son of 79-year-old victim Yoshinori Shimato, arrived at the Royal Thai Police headquarters for updates on the case of his disappearance since September 21 and expressed his appreciation to senior officers there.

In meeting the son, Pol Lt Gen Rueangsak Jarit-ek, acting deputy police chief, said the national police chief expressed his deepest sorrow and promised to take decisive legal action against the wrongdoers.

The grieving son received the message through a translator.

Mr Shimato said he was satisfied with the quick action of the Thai police.

It was hard for him to recover from losing his father, he said, but he still felt positively about Thai people because his father always told him he would like to live in Thailand until the end of his life for it was a beautiful country.

Suspects Pornchanok Chaiyapa and Somchai Kaewbangyang were charged with the murder and concealment of the body.

The murder was carried out to steal the victim's assets, police said.

The authorities are investigating to see if Mr Somchai, Mrs Pornchanok's husband, has a porevious criminal record.

Acting Bangkok police chief Pol Maj Gen Srivara Ransibrahmanakul said the couple had cut the body of the 79-year-old Japanese victim into pieces in the second floor bathroom of their Orchid Villa housing estate home in Samut Prakan.

Placing the body parts in plastic bags, the suspects dumped them in in a Samut Prakan canal. (MCOT online news)

Mr. Somchai doesn't need to have a criminal record. RIP, old fellow. Seems that you've lived your life, but met the wrong woman.

I guess he thought they did a good job. They did. The people that did this were nothings in society. No connections. Then the Police aren't motivated to mess up the case to protect anyone

Sad news for this chap. I wonder how it would have played out had the old gent been killed in a hit and run incident with a drug-addled hiso at the wheel of a sports car.

It was them that went to the ATM and stole the money from the old Japanese. The lassie took a taxi driver as her lover. Would it have been a police guy tat would have mingled with the Black Spider woman they would have never found the body.

Any way good job by the police. If they do want to solve cases they can be very good here in Bangkok. A different story however in Surat Thani but lets wait for the outcome.

Japanese are known as very polite people, wonder what he really thought??

Certainly posters on Thai Visa are seldom hampered by being polite, realistic or sensible. Whatever comes to mind, just blurt it out, especially if it might get a few laughs from the other troglodytes.

yeah, thank those police for solving a case that practically solved its self.

Ok, they solved the case. Yes, yes, yes... the couple were not connected people, didn't have powerful backing blah blah blah... I get that. But credit where credit is due, they did it and that's that. thumbsup.gif
