ref Thailand's Official attitude to disabled people, as it is so disgraceful I believe it merits a wider audience.

http://www.jamaicaob...ically-disabled

why it was buried here I don't know but for those who may be discouraged by the source here is a snippet.......

BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) -- A court upheld a decision by a government agency to bar a physically disabled lawyer from taking a test to become a public prosecutor, ruling that the agency has the right to choose the "right person" for the job.

The verdict on Thursday drew fire from civil rights and lawyers groups, which vowed to intensify efforts to fight laws in Thailand that exclude people with disabilities from a range of occupations ranging from teachers to masseuses.

The Constitutional Court ruled 12-3 that the State Attorney Commission had not violated the constitution when it prevented Sirimit Boonmul from taking an exam to become a prosecutor because it deemed his "personality and body were in an inappropriate state".

This topic will not get the defenders of all things thai come out of the closet.

I wish i could write that i am shocked after reading the article....am not...unfortunately.

Shocking Asia.

It is what it is.

Thailand is decades away from being disabled friendly.

I'm always amused by farang that are offended when thailand hasn't modernized at the same rate their particular country has. Guaranteed there are countries in the world more advanced in these fields than theirs but they are obviously commie pinko states! lol

Would seem to be scant information on which anyone could pass reasoned comment.

For instance; what was his disability, was there something else ? it mentions personality.

There may or may not have been good reason for the decision in this particular case.

Another point, are lawyers normally accepted for taking the exam without screening or is it normal for some able bodied lawyers to be excluded for various reasons.

Its nice to know more facts before leaping in and condemning but that doesn't stop some as we see in so many topics.

To the OP ... I'm confused ... blink.png

I read back through the original News Item ... I can't see your post anywhere there.

Could you show that link please?

Not surprised.

But WHY?

Is this related to Buddhist attitudes about karma and disability?

It was rightfully removed after a PM from the mod, pointing at that there were essentially 2 identical posts from me and I chose to have my Pattaya post removed. I have requested the mod to edit it out.

The link that engendered my anger was

Who the hell can interpret the constitution this way.

The judges must have the IQ of a gnat combined.

Correct me if I haven't got this correct.

You feel that this story in the Pattaya News Clippings Forum deserves a wider audience?

So you simply re-post it in the General Forum?

You say that you are "I am reposting my response" ... but don't offer a link?

When queried about the lack of a link or a quote you say that ... "It was rightfully removed after a PM from the mod"

The link that you supply simply loops back to the Original Story?

Outrage requires no lucid explanation...

Something to do with a disabled person must have done something bad in their previous life, so they must be shunned as a bad person.

Good luck with changing that mentality.

That's what I was referring to before. Still I find it hard to believe that would be integrated into a high court decision. More like what the common folks might think.

So not only are you not offended but you're laughing at disabled people being abused and belittled. You are a sick <deleted>.

He is the defender of all things thai and even thought now....i do not waver....like i never do....shameless indeed.

What's the use of referring to a post you say was removed at your request? Confusing.

why it was buried here I don't know but for those who may be discouraged by the source here is a snippet.......

Who buried what where and when? Whatever may have been buried 12 years ago, when the article to which you linked was published, must have decomposed by now.

Two Ton Tony Galento was KO'd in an early round, his trainer remarked "Ya shoulda stood in bed"

You are more concerned about x-postings than the essence of the OP's post.

No doubt this reply will add to your woes.

While I think society has a duty to provide opportunities for everybody, it should also have the right to exclude people from professions their disabilities make them inappropriate for.

That being said, why can't a disabled person practice law?

Thais are scared of people who are physically or mentally disabled, not actually scared but scared they will lose face being seen with a person who has that affliction.

No help is offered to them either.

Just shows you the mentality of the majority of Thai people.

"no he's a spastic, dump him by the side of the road" really sad IMO.

I can see we need another category in "Thai Visa Brigades"

Thailand is decades away from being disabled friendly.

SAme goes for old people. Ever see old people in shopping malls? i think they forbide old people from leaving their homes.

I am partially disabled and walk slowly with a stick.

When I perambulate, I do so on an electric trike.

I find nothing but respect from Thais - from assistance immediately they see me to even MIB stopping traffic so I can enter Bangla Road at night.

If you are growing old disgracefully here like me this is one of the best places to live.

Jeez - even at my age (or because of it?) I'm still " a prospect ".

This really is a duplicate thread, which we don't allow. Plus, it references an old news article. Not really timely.

Please comment on the thread in the Pattaya forum. Thanks for your understanding.
