October 30, 201411 yr Hi, I am on Retirement one year stay. This is my 4th year of stay. I received a 690 Baht discount coupon in my name for the Set-Top Box. Can I use that coupon as a foreigner ? I was told this offer is only for Thai nationals only. Is this correct ? Your kind advice is much appreciated. Thank you all in advance.
October 30, 201411 yr I would give it a try, what's the worst that can happen? You will need ID (passport I suppose). The coupons do seem to be linked to the person who applied so not transferable (ours is in Wifeys name). "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
October 30, 201411 yr Is this some form of code? My top box and rack cost 19,000 Baht. I don't think you'll get much for 690 Baht.

October 30, 201411 yr The coupon is to purchase a DVB-T2 box to convert terrestrial broadcast digital TV to analogue which enables a standard TV (no built in DVB T2 tuner) to view the Thai digital signals on an older set. Basic boxes are available (Lotus etc) for 690 baht . It can be used as a discount coupon when purchasing a TV with an appropriate tuner. or a more expensive DVB T2 box. Usable by foreigners, sorry do not know. Edit..spelling Edited October 30, 201411 yr by ThaidDown
October 30, 201411 yr Need to "apply" for the coupon? Didn't know that, thought they were just delivered one per household according to the records of the tambien ban. In any case, we've not received one. Mac

The coupons do seem to be linked to the person who applied so not transferable (ours is in Wifeys name). Just checked ours, it came by post last week. It says, house owner (in Thai) followed by the address, we didnt even apply for it. The local khet for our area obviously sent one to every house in the area, Bang Kapi.
October 30, 201411 yr Wife, Thai, house in her and my son's name, got two free and surprise, they work. I do not use them as have True and CTH satellite, but there are two other old sets in the spare rooms.

We did have to apply, village boss brought round forms to everyone, coupon definitely has Wifeys name. If our OP didn't actually apply he likely has one like yours 'house owner'. October 30, 201411 yr I am in a Bangkok highrise condominium and we got a coupon addressed to "owner of unit no.xxxx" without asking for it.
October 31, 201411 yr I live in a Bangkok condo and received a coupon this week in wifey's name. We did not apply for it and will not use it as we have a True box already.
October 31, 201411 yr If you have a driving license from Thailand show it as your ID, they will consider it as a local. You can also get discount the same way for many tourist attractions here and pay just like Thai person.
October 31, 201411 yr 32 channels (I think 24 deployed by now), SD and HD, crispy clear channels on an indoor antenna, all Thai language though.
November 1, 201411 yr Author Hi Jdietz, Please let me know what type and brand of your indoor antenna ? Your advice is much appreciated. Thanking you in advance.
November 1, 201411 yr As said they seem to be delivered to house by Post Office without asking. This is just a different digital tuner box for TV set - if you have current TV model it may have tuner built in for digital signals and you will not need the box. It is more than old analog stations but far less than satellite free selection. So if you need the box it might be worth considering going C-band (300 channels) or even Ku-band (about 80 channels) and just buying satellite box/antenna (which are not that expensive) and then you also have options for various pay TV channels if you want later.
November 1, 201411 yr Author My 4 years old Sony TV is integrated with a DVB T - tuner. The Thailand Digital transmission is on the latest DVB T2 transmission. I was told that a out dated TV with a DVB T - tuner can't receive signals with the latest DVB T2 transmission. I need to use the DVB T2 - Set-Top Box. As a matter of fact, they are now selling the DVB T2 - Set-Top Box. The question I would like to ask is this. I am living in a condo building and I wish to buy a good indoor antenna. Please recommend me a good and reliable indoor antenna. Your kind advice is much appreciated. Thanking you all in advance.
