visa extension question help please!

Featured Replies

What if you come in to Thailand by air and get a free 30 day 'visa on arrival' and I want to extend with 30 days..

How long before your first 30 days expire do you have to go and get an extension? Can you do that ,lets say 5 days, before you first

30 days expire?

And when do the new 30 days start? I assume when your first 30 days have expired or does it start the day you go and get it?

Thanks in advance!!!

When you arrive you enter visa exempt, not visa on arrival.

Extensions are added to the end of the stay.

Note: extension cost Bt 1,900, while a 60 days, extendable tourist visa about 1,000, so the latter is a better choice.

Thanks for the help!

I can't do that (at leat I think) cause I will enter thailand for about two weeks first and then fly out to Myanmar for a month and come back to thailand (I would like to stay 2 months)..

Then I should get a 2 x 60 day entry.. Which costs 60 euro versus about 45 euro for an extra 30 days after a visa exempt.

If you perhaps have another solution, I would love the hear..

Just to be clear, I can get a 60 day visa for Thailand in Yangoon? I thought it was only 30 days?

Thailand's tourist visa are 60 days per entry, extendable to 30 more.

1. Your best option would be to get a double entry Tourist visa before you travel. On entry to Thailand you would get 60 days and then when you come back from Myanmar you would use the second entry and get 60 days. This option would cost you 2000 baht. and if you wanted to extend your stay you could get a 30 day extension for 1900 baht at immigration.

2 If you come without a visa you would enter on a "visa exempt" and get 30 days. Since your have a ticket exiting Thailand to Myanmar in two weeks boarding the flight should not be a problem. When you come back from Myanmar you could reenter Thailand using a "visa exempt" entry and get 30 days on entry which can be extended at immigration for another 30 days, this option would cost 1900 baht.

3. If you come without a visa you would enter on a "visa exempt" and get 30 days. Since your have a ticket exiting Thailand to Myanmar in two weeks boarding the flight should not be a problem. While you are in Myanmar you could apply for a single entry tourist visa, the cost is 1000 baht and here's a link to the Embassy explaining their rules: http://www.thaiembassy.org/yangon/en/services/33445-Tourist-Visa.html/ On entry to Thailand, you would get 60 days permission to stay which could be extended for another 30 at immigration.

IMHO although the first option is the most expensive by 100 baht but you do not have to waste any time or travel expenses going to immigration for and extension or visiting an Embassy in Myanmar to possibly get a tourist visa. If you are really that strapped for cash, I would consider another vacation destination!

Thanks for helping!! I think I will go for the third option and apply for visa in Myanmar.

I allready know I will spend my last three days in Yangoon and visa only takes 1 workingday. Also if I apply for a 2 x 60 day entry tourist visum here in the Netherlands I have to show proof of leaving the country by air in those 60 days.. If I would show my ticket to Myanmar they don't give the 60 days because I am staying less than 30 days the first time I entry.

I can always decide to extend with extra 30 days after those 60 in Thailand as I don't have any specific plans..

By the way, I just read from someone who recently applied for Thai visa in Myanmar that the price is now 40 USD..

You will get the visa after you apply for it but it may take several days before you can do the application.

The embassy is giving out numbers several days in advance and you might get one a week later according to a recent report.

So it would be beter to apply the day I arrive in Yangoon?

And what do you mean with 'The embassy is giving out numbers several days in advance' ?

Queue numbers for admission to the consular section of embassy to make the application.

I would get a double entry in home country. Is it worth the risks/trouble trying to save a few euros.

I always post for people to get the correct visa before travelling here, local area visa's are ok in an emergency or if already living in Thailand, I think all this changing/tightening up the rules is caused by people sailing close to the wind, I am not saying the OP is doing this, just a general comment

Those 15 euros I don't mind.. But I am not sure if I even can get a double entry at home because you have to have proof that you leave the country in 60 days (by air) for applying visa. I allready leave to Myanmar after two weeks after the first entry. That is within 30 days, so they can say those 30 days falls under the visa exemption and you can't get a 60 day visa..

Do you perhaps know if they can/will deney because of that?

nevermind, I didn't understand it the right way.. I don't need to show proof of returning, just my ticket to thailand and I have to write down my travel plans and give a signature I will buy my return ticket in Thailand..

I will take your advice and get a 2 x 60 entry here!

One more question maybe someone can answer me, If I want to extend for 30 days after my second 60 day entree, is it possible to allready do that about 10 days before the 60 day visa will expire?

You can apply for the 10 days early for the 30 day extension without a problem.

By the way, I just read from someone who recently applied for Thai visa in Myanmar that the price is now 40 USD..

Same as in the US. So you would save approx $40 or eur 30 compared to double entry visa, that would give you no advantage whatsoever.
