Five cellular antennas torched in Narathiwat

Southern militants burned down five mobile phone transmission antennas in Bacho, Yi Ngor and Ruesor districts of Narathiwat province Friday night, causing damages and disrupting services of three mobile operators, AIS, DTAC and True Move in the areas.

Forensic and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) police reported two GSM cellular antennas of AIS and DTAC in Ruesor were burned.

The arsonists used car tyres and gasoline in burning the AIS transmission antenna. It was totally damaged. A DTAC antenna was also burned the same way, but was slightly damaged.

In Yi Ngor, two DTAC and a True Move cellular antennas were also torched but were slightly damaged as local residents helped to put the fires out
in time.

EOD police inspecting the five scenes Saturday morning said they have to take extreme caution as the militants might leave behind bombs to harm EOD team.

Ignorant people wanting to keep everyone in their area in the stone age...Thailand needs to bring in an "A" team from another country to go in and take these criminals out...after more than 10 years of negotiations...its is time to think outside the box...

Or some drug dealers making a big haul that night and they don't want the popo to be able to communicate during the next day or so.

Or some local landowners not happy about the lease payments they're not getting for having the antennas on their (illegally obtained) land.

Or some environmental crazies that want to quit wearing their tin foil hats that shield them from Cellular Radiation (just made that up).

Or government actors that don't want the locals communicating during some kind of action on their part, but want the blame to be placed elsewhere.

Too many possibilities, and we'll never know what really happened.

Yes, many possibilities, yet one has to make a calculated guess.

Just a little civil unrest. Isolated and irrelevant. Nothing to be concerned about. Authorities have it all under control as they have done for the past 30 years. A country in denial.

But if the mobile-phones don't work, how ever will the terrorists political-activists set off their motorbike-bombs ? blink.png
