Canberra man reported missing in Thailand features in television series
Henry Belot

CANBERRA: -- The story of Canberra man who went missing in Southeast Asia earlier this year has been featured in promotions for a new television series documenting the work of Australian diplomats inside the Bangkok Embassy.

Nathan Hansford, a 36-year-old who had lived in Bangkok for 10 years, was reported missing by his family on March 3 after they failed to hear from him for more than two months and were unable to verify his whereabouts.

Mr Hansford had regularly kept in touch with his family and the last known sighting of him at the time of the report was leaving the gated suburb of Thungkru on January 31 to travel in a taxi to Mo Chit in central Bangkok.

After cooperation between diplomatic staff and local police, Mr Hansford was eventually found in a Phnom Penh hotel where his family said he was suffering from temporary memory loss sustained after a motorbike accident.

Mr Hansford's brother Hamish, who lives in Canberra, said Nathan's amnesia had initially restricted his family from discovering the circumstances of the accident or how he managed to survive.

I saw the show, and it was all a bit weird, no details of why this high profile Banker was suddenly 'found', after being presumed kidnapped, and the Aussie couple who had been in Bangkok for three days had all their possessions including passports in one unsecured bag.

Sounds more like punt.

So he was 36 and had been living in Bangkok for 10 years. What was he doing in Bangkok? Work Visa? Student Ed Visa? Independently wealthy perhaps, but how could he stay in the country so long?

I am ok...you can all stop worrying if thought it was me.

People have stayed a lot longer than 10 years on tourist and Ed visas.

I do not know his financial situation but he was married to a thai.

He is married to a Thai, works as an international contractor specialising in public finance and capital market development.

It's all there, in the link on the OP.

No, you're all wrong. It was the American underwater show starring Lloyd Bridges. It was called SEA HUNT, just pick the correct letter from the alphabet and you win a Cupie doll.

the weird thing that jumped out at me was that the Australian Embassy hosted an Australia Day party for the powerful elite, and on the menu had.......roast lamb.

Ever known a Thai person to eat sheep?

Not an Aussie, but watched the first episode. Very interesting show.

I'm an Aussie and saw the show and thought it was reality T.V crap and fiction. There aren't any Aussies working at the Australian Embassy they are all Thai been there a number of times and everyone is Thai.

c oops got it.

yes; another big beat up to insinuate how dangerous Thailand is. No mention that all those in the sh*t got there from there owb stupid actions.

even the aussie fraudster who ripped of many, crying in jail virtually let off scott free.

should note also, the old couple who left bag with money, passport, credit cards ect...taxi driver returned the whole lot to them. I think they tipped the guy a few thousand baht.

instead of moaning about big bad thailand and its dangers you should marvel about how many of these fools get out of their own silly situation unscathed
