UK: Man attacks 15-year-old poppy seller

Exactly Lokie

The assailant is a scumbag , just as the French guy I encountered last year was. Why some on here try to introduce a race or religious aspect is extremely disheartening. Bigotry is hateful , whatever side of the fence one is on , some would do well to digest the fact.

The offender, described as black or Asian

Really!? ohmy.png

I'm guessing by "Asian", they mean the British meaning of Asian (South Asian: Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, etc)? Otherwise, how could they not differentiate b/w black and Asian (American definition: Chinese, Korea, Japanese, etc)?

Presumably under the influence of the same substance that he sprayed.

I tend to agree. Attacking somebody "with an aerosol can and lighter and spraying him with lit fumes" doesn't sound like the MO of a drunk. More like what you suggest or ice/yaba, & etc.

It was in Chinatown they (the Chinese) don't wear hoods (at least not up) and wouldn't commit that kind of act on such a person, and any Chinese there with any motives of violence have bigger fish to fry.

Such a <deleted> hero, attacking a 15 year old boy.

High time the UK Government invoked one of the primary roles of the Armed Forces.

Military Aid to the Civil Authorities.

Don't be an ass its a simple matter of an unprovoked assault nothing more. unfortunate but thats all, regular police is all it needs on the case.

The fact that it was a minor is secondary, the Military uniform was what got him attacked most likely.

The perp will be caught and convicted count on it.

If you think my statement was just a kneejerk reaction to this 1 incident then you are seriously mistaken.

The Police force is overwhelmed and has been for years. So much so that is a well recognised fact that there is no go areas for the Police on mainland UK.

This is just 2 over the last couple of days. Have a read and take your head out of the sand.

A police 'no go' area is an area which the police refuse to enter.

The two links do not confirm in any way, shape or form that there are police 'no go' areas in the UK!

In the first, paramedics could not enter a block of flats due to residents thinking they were police.

The fault lies with the residents for not letting them in because they thought they were police; not with the police for refusing to enter. Indeed, once the police arrived the paramedics were able to enter.

The second makes no mention of 'no go' areas at all; it's an article about low police morale due to low pay and conditions!

This attack on a young boy selling poppies is despicable; no matter what the reason. As would any similar attack on anyone.

Using it to spread rubbish which even the links you provided don't support is, in my view, just as despicable.

LOL hardly, violent crime and crime in general has been dropping for years in the UK. Try looking at the records not single news items.

The Crime Survey estimates show that crime in England and Wales has fallen by 58% since 1995,

http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/jan/23/crime-falls-lowest-level-32-years

Down 10% in the past year 2013

Murder rates right down

Not just england and wales either scotland too

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/scotland/10347739/Homicide-figures-drop-to-record-low-in-Scotland.html

Its the best its been for decades and your calling for the army ? cheesy.gif Get a grip

There are always going to be incidents no matter what and certain trouble spots, always have been.

We can lose thousands of police its not a problem there will always be more getting recruited, we arnt running out of people looking for jobs.

You cant have a perfection but the UK is very far from your apparent impression of it, im not sure how old you are but id suggest young if you dont have a clue how things used to be compared to now.

Interesting (but off-topic) potential factoid . . .

Did removing lead from petrol spark a decline in crime?

Many Western nations have experienced significant declines in crime in recent decades, but could the removal of lead from petrol explain that?

Why are you twisting my words ?

I did not say that the links provided confirmed no-go areas. I said it was a well known fact.

I know what the 1st link says. It highlights exactly what the residents think about the Police. The residents couldnt give a flying fig for the Police, they would not open the door because they thought it was the Police. As a result 2 children died. Great community spirit in YOUR VIEW ?

I also know what the 2nd article states. Thats why I posted it. Go speak to a Policeman and ask him the REAL reasons that they are leaving in spades. Not the PC crap that is posted in the press.

And you call me despicable ?

You keep thinking that you are living in wonderland, Alice

I wont bother with much of a reply.

Believe what you like. try reading the articles on " how recording crime " has changed over the years.

It will give you the answers that you really need to know.

Your post is a triumph of nostalgia over fact. Even during the height of The Blitz a minority of born and bred British scumbags were robbing , raping and killing their fellow countrymen.

Really?

You can't read the news much!

Unfortunately unprovoked street attacks and assaults are common.

Thug jailed for unprovoked attack on two strangers in South Shields street

Nuneaton man jailed for 'cowardly' attack on teenager in street

Nasty Unprovoked Attack In St Neots

Gang of fancy dress thugs dressed as Robin Hood and Heidi in unprovoked street attack

The reports don't say, of course, whether or not the perpetrators in any of the above had family who fought in either world war; but as they were all white and British, they probably have.

I missed out the word " Reports " between 2 & over.

There is nothing in my writing that suggests that the 2 reports were anything to do with no-go areas. But they do exist, if you can be bothered looking.

You talk about no go areas and then present two reports without any indication that you have changed the subject!

You excuses now that you have been found out are just that, excuses; and feeble to boot.

I have looked; police no go areas in the UK are a thing of the past in the UK.

As those of us who, unlike you, actually live here know.

I dont need excuses.

Of course they are a thing of the past. They cannot admit otherwise can they ? I suggested you go speak to a Policeman, one that you might know. He just might give you the truth.

There is a reason I choose to live in what some people call a 3rd world country and not the UK. I wonder if you could work it for yourself ?

But still, you do not comment on that wonderful neighborhood that refused to open the door, because they THOUGHT IT WAS THE POLICE. Which ultimately cost the lives of 2 young children.

Must be great to live in your world.

From your link it's not 'no-go areas'. "Tom Winsor said police officers were simply never called to some neighbourhoods, where law-abiding people rather than criminals administer their own form of justice"

An old fashioned good hiding cos the police are worse than useless?

I can think of several reasons why someone might choose to live In Thailand rather than the UK; some respectable (such as the reason why my wife and I will be retiring to Thailand; she's Thai, her twin sister and son live there, our pensions will go further) others not so much; I'll let you work out what those are and into which category you fit.

But still, you do not comment on that wonderful neighborhood that refused to open the door, because they THOUGHT IT WAS THE POLICE. Which ultimately cost the lives of 2 young children.

As said; this had nothing to do with a so called 'police no go' area. It was probably due to the mistrust and dislike even sometimes hatred of the police in some sections of the community. Especially among those of West Indian descent due to, among other factors, the disproportionate number of young black men stopped and searched by the police; Police up to 28 times more likely to stop and search black people – study

Which does not, of course, excuse the actions of the residents of that block of flats (not neighbourhood!).

Exactly, simple1.

From further on in the report linked to; "It’s not that the police are afraid to go into these areas or don’t want to go into those areas,’ he said. ‘But if the police don’t get calls for help then, of course, they won’t know what’s going on."

JockPieandBeans, when linking to and quoting from articles to prove your point, you should read the whole article first!

It matters not, why they are called no go areas. The fact is they exist.

They are so law abiding that they refused to open the door, because they thought it was the Police, which resulted in the death of 2 children.

Are you really advocating that people take the law into their own hands ? I had thought better of you, obviously not. And some idiot actually liked your post.

What more can I say ?

Posted (edited)

I doubt that simple1 is advocating that people take the law into their own hands; I am certainly not!

But there is a big difference between the police not acting on crimes they don't know about because they have not been reported to them, for whatever reason, and the police refusing to enter certain so called no go areas!

Just as there is a big difference between residents of a block of flats denying entry to paramedics because they thought they were the police and the police refusing to enter that block of flats; which they didn't.

Surely even you can see that?
