Ubon Hash House Harriers - November Run - 4pm Saturday 8th November

Apologies to anyone who has missed hashing in the last 6 weeks. Yours truly has been away in the UK for some medical attention. I arrived back in Thailand yesterday.

So we missed a run in October and our usual first Saturday of the month has passed by, but I will arrange a run/walk this coming Saturday. Since I am not yet back in Ubon to check it out let's meet at N-Joy Bar at 4pm on Saturday 8th November and I'll take it from there. Details of location of N-Joy Bar are attached

PM me if you need more information.

Hashing is social running and there have been hash clubs all over the world since its 1930s origins in Kuala Lumpur. The running bit is not taken seriously and beer is drunk to oil the social side. Ubon Hash, in line with the Ubon environment is laid back and only a few enthusiasts put in a few spurts of running. The rest walk. A trail is laid, typically in white powder like flower/chalk and the pack has to find the trail, which keeps the front runners busy while the walkers catch up. After the run the beer ice-boxes are opened and the socialising begins. We usually go back for some more beer and maybe some food around town in the early evening, and some more beer later in the evening, but that is entirely optional on your part!

Don't be a stay at home wuss - get out there with us and discover the sides of Ubon you would not normally uncover. It's dead cheap (100B) for your first run and inexpensive (250B) thereafter; even cheaper for Thais - and that includes free beer after, and sometimes during, the run.

OK - run duly located.

I'm taking the opportunity to run again in one of the most scenic parts of Ubon - Hat Khu Deua. Yes we have run there before but having carefully consulted the run lists I'm pretty sure that with the exception of Ever-Ready (aka Nim - she'll get a free hash in compensation) no-one who has run it before* will be turning up.

If you can make it I can promise a very scenic run/walk with riverside beer stop and riverside circle and one of Ubon's prettiest wats. A little bit of easy going jungle together with fishing village roads. Quite a bit of tree shade, though the sun will be low by the time we set off. Nice to have the prospect of sun again!

Meet up at N-Joy tomorrow. We leave N-Joy promptly at 4pm. PM me for my mobile number if you find yourself playing catch-up or insist on going direct to the run site.

*Wallbanger, Karl & family, Helmut, Bob-a-Job (will our founder member ever return?), Rattana (out-of-town) and a selection of mostly one-off visitors

BTW: Full stock of "I love Ubon" (isaan words written in Thai) Ubon Hash shirts available again, including a few male yellow 'away team' shirts for any of you exported ex-Ubon hashers. Postage can be arranged! Keep a clean one for smart - they make a good tourist shirt and I find they attract some attention from fellow Isaanites when in Bangkok etc.

Thanks for the update! Hope it goes well for you Helmuth (luckily I don't think there are any more Germanic/potentially Germanic forenames on the hash members list!)
