Bring a phone from Hong Kong

Featured Replies

I lost my iPhone few days ago and so far no one return it to me. Oh well....I guess I am not one of the lucky tourists we always here on ThaiVisa that some good Thai Samaritan reunite them with their belongings.

Now, I asked my girlfriend which is in Hong Kong, to buy me another phone, (a Samsung Galaxy K) and send it here in Thailand (Chinag Mai). When she wanted to ship it, the FedEx guys told her that I will need some kind of import licence. I was trying to find the information in regards to the said licence but so far nothing usable turned out.

Can you please point me in the right direction and or share some information that would help me get my phone.

Thank you anticipated for your time and effort.

Send it regular post recorded delivery?

Declare on customs form "gift" and "used mobile phone"

Get her to take it out and put some finger prints on the screen for good measure and mess up the packaging abit

Put a lower value on the form

phones should be exempt of any duties and having to have a import license sounds like bs and something fedex would do to get more cash, you may have to pay the 7% tax thing on pickup but it will probably get through

Send it by EMS, not one of the express services like FedEx, DHL etc. EMS is fast and secure and I have had no hassles with Thai customs vs. the express shippers and their forms. Phone should be duty free.

+1 on EMS. FedEx and the others may also hassle about the battery.

I usually have just the phone and charger shipped by recorder mail because I don't need the box (packaging).
