Burma asks Thailand to reopen investigation into Britons’ murder
Two Burmese suspects in murder of Hannah Witheridge and David Miller say they were tortured into confessing

LONDON: -- Burma has formally asked Thailand to reopen the investigation into the murder of two British tourists over claims that the Burmese suspects confessed to the crime under torture.

Hannah Witheridge and David Miller were found bludgeoned to death on a beach on the popular holiday island of Koh Tao in September.

The Thai authorities have charged Burmese migrants Win Zaw Htun and Zaw Lin, both 21, with the murders. They say both confessed after they were forced to re-enact the Thai’s police version of the incident on the beach.

But both men say were beaten by the Thai police, and they have retracted their confessions. The father of Win Zaw said the police doused the pair in petrol and threatened to set them alight.

A lawyer for the Burmese embassy’s legal team said the request to reopen the investigation had been made to Thailand’s ministry for legal affairs.

The RTP ignored the Human Rights Commisions requests to answer their questions regarding the way they obtained the confessions. What makes anyone think a Burmy request will be followed?

I doubt it'll be taken heed of but it is great to see the Burmese authorities are actually looking after their own. They must know a hell of a lot and have a whole heap of documents stashed away to make such a bold move. Let's hope they push a little more for the truth to come out

Thailand imported gas worth $ 3.5 billion from Myanmar last year!!

This is just bollywood, the Thais got several time beaten up by the burmese in wars, but the main impact was the destruction of Ayutthaya by the burmese.

The Thai culture did'nt recovered from this event until now.

I am glad to hear that the burmese government, beacon of human rights, cares so much about their citizens in Thailand. After all, their military regime seems to care so much about their people that they beat them senseless (monks), they take really good care of the ´slaves´ working in Thailand and overall take very good care of their ´tribes´ (e.g. Rohingas)
