I have a multiple re-entry permit, based on a non-immigrant 'O' visa, allowing me to stay until 19 Jan 2015. I plan to arrive 29 Nov and stay until 15 April 2015. I plan to get a retirement extension prior to expiry, probably 30 days prior to 19 Jan. allowing me to stay until 19 JAN 2016.

No, people having a visa do not need any exit ticket.

you will need your 800,000baht seasoned for two months prior to the application unless you are going proof of funds or a commination of both route

In the case of the "combination" method, some offices (notably Chaengwattana) are now, in practice, insisting on the bank balance part being seasoned for 2 months for the initial extension.
