Half Thai/British child born in UK what documents do we need to claim Thai citizenship?

Featured Replies

My Thai Wife, our 3 week old baby and me British have recently arrived in Thailand to live.

My daughter and I traveled on British passports.

We are now in Phetchabun living with my wife's parents.

I want my daughter to acquire her Thai nationality we have her UK birth certificate with her Thai mothers name on it will this be sufficient in the local registry office?

Thanks

You need a Thai birth certificate issued by the Thai embassy in London. That is only thing that will be accepted at the Amphoe as proof of her Thai nationality.

You can start the process of getting the birth certificate at the Consular Affairs department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if you do not plan on returning to the UK anytime soon.

Info for getting the birth certificate at the embassy here: http://www.thaiembassyuk.org.uk/?q=node/191

uk embassy is a lot simpler, but too late now
