Ex-Democrat MP sentenced to death

Perhaps it might finally put to death the repeated claims that Democrats are never held accountable by the courts, but, probably, it won't.

Yes and the claims that only red politicians and public servants can act like this. People on both sides of the political arena are capable and actually do act in such a way.

There's certainly a disproportionate amount of the former claims when compared to the latter claims. Probably a 1,000 to 1 ratio. wink.png

The ratio you quoted is absolute proof.

You cannot count.

Then one can only surmise you cannot read.

Udon, 49, sustained eight gunshot wounds to the head. The court found Khanchit guilty of four charges: premeditated murder, intimidation, carrying a gun, and firing it in a public place without any sound reason.

Eight shots to the head, at what range? That is outstanding marksmanship!

Not if the other guys head was anywhere near the size of this guys melon.

Guy has an unusually large head.

Maybe the girl they were arguing over liked big headed men. Just a theory I have.

But sadly in this case he allowed the small head to do the thinking!!

Maybe if it is carried out. Appeals to more elite friendly levels of the judiciary will likely see this yellow shirt walk.

Yet another one.....sentenced to death and out on bail.....what is it with hi-sos that they cannot be punished. You can be sure that if he doesn't run off to Cambodia until the statute of limitations runs out (sic) and then comes back to another glorious career as an MP....or he gets a deal.

What are the chances that the Burmese accused of murdering the Brits on Kao Tao will get bail? I mean they are only accused of the crime, as opposed to this fellow being convicted...so bail should be a foregone conclusion if the courts are fair, right?

Ex-Democrat MP sentenced to death

Perhaps it might finally put to death the repeated claims that Democrats are never held accountable by the courts, but, probably, it won't

.

and finally put to rest the repeated claims that the Democrats are the good guys and protectors of democracy.

The case itself has no political affiliations - it was a "dispute" over a woman which Khanchit Thapsuwan decided was best resolved by murdering his "rival".

However, at the time, abhisit did reveal that the police had made a request of the House Speaker seeking permission to question Thapsuwan. The "ever decisive" abhisit didn't have the guts to agree for that to happen, even though his MP had been accused of premeditated murder, and said that it was up to parliament to decide.

Meanwhile the dems lawyer, MP Niphit Intharasombat argued that Thapsuwan should be allowed to remain an MP sitting in parliament with his fellow dem MP's until the court case was finalised - and that was what happened, as abhisit obviously didn't see anything wrong with having an accused (and now proven) murderer (with eyewitnesses and video evidence - despite what TeamKorn were to reiterate at the time*) as a still serving member of his political party, not even a whiff of a suspension from duties........................

Then Korn Chaticavanij got into the act of trying to make political capital out of it on the risible TeamKorn facebook page*

Today, Team-Korn would like to share some interesting observations made by Komchadluek newspaper yesterday regarding Democrat MP Khanchit Thapsuwan's alleged involvement in the murder of Samut Sakhon Provincial Administration Organisation president Udon Kraiwatnussorn.

- The only eyewitness testimony came from the victim's driver.

- Do the police actually have enough hard evidence in linking the murder of Khun Udon to MP Khanchit Thapsuwan and the Democrat Party? Or was the call politically motivated?

- In a similar case, why has the police not linked the murder of Chutidet Suwannakerd (Democrat Party canvasser in Don Muang murdered in early December 2011) to any political parties?

Neither abhisit nor Korn came out of this with any kind of dignity...............................coffee1.gif

8 head shots against an unarmed man made it hard to argue self defence.

At the time I remember being disgusted that he refused to surrender his pistol to police for analysis and police accepted that. If a suspect has just murdered some one with a gun, pistol don't negotiate with them to hand over the murder weapon. They point a dozen M16s at the suspect and order him to hand over the weapon or be shot dead. At least that's what would happen to anyone without wealth or connections. Pathetic.

When I read he was allowed bail I nearly fell of my stool! It's unbelievable how this can happen! It's a poke in the eye for true justice.

Read post #10

ya!.... but?

Post #10 says he was released

[[The former Democrat MP was prosecuted in the Samut Sakhon provincial court (the court of first instance) on June 28, 2012, but he was granted temporary release on bail after he used his MP status to guarantee himself.]]

[[After handing down the death sentence, Kanchit’s lawyer tried to seek temporary release on bail from the court but was rejected.

He was put into the Samut Sakhon prison pending appeal of the death sentence.]]

clear as mud

It's astounding that an argument ends up like this, and the perp is out on bail. Miracle Thailand.

It's surprising how many posters, who don't read the thread before hitting the keyboard!!

Bail denied!!coffee1.gif

This was in the posted article i read:

"Khanchit's mother Tassanee Tabsuwan has assigned a lawyer to submit Bt1.4 million in assets to secure her son's temporary freedom." What does that imply?

It implies that she is *trying* to get him out on bail.

He made the mistake of killing somebody who was well connected. If he had topped a street vendor he probably wouldn't even have been charged (not because he's a democrat but because of the class system)

Oh the irony!!

The victim, who alledgedly couldn't keep it in his pants, was murdered in a pissoar with his "weapon" out!!

And there I was thinking that the racist comment you made on another topic was your bottom of the barrel. Seems I was wrong. bah.gif

Predictable: hiso murderer released on bail (for a token amount to powerful political families). He will appeal, the case drags on for years, the media lose interest, the public forgets about it, and it's business as usual.

Well-connected Thai elites never have to worry about going to jail.

Bail was denied as he is considered a flight risk. Read post #10.

doesnt matter who does the shooting as long as they are caught and punished, something that didnt happen under the ptp. Politicians/the rich need to be held just as accountable as the public unlike a certain son of a politician, everyone needs to be treated equally
