August 2, 200620 yr A friend's just phoned, he's trying to install an 80Gb hard drive in addition to his 40GB, DVD writter and CD player - 4 units total, connected on two leads, each with two connectors. Sounds simple enough, but only three drives appear in 'my computer'. It doesn't make any diiference what combination of drives he tries, all 4 work Ok but only three ever show..... I don't have the exact details of the equipment Any ideas?

August 2, 200620 yr Make sure the jumpers for Master/Slave are set right on each device. One master and one slave for each IDE cable. I've had trouble on numerous occasions trying to use the 'cable select' option. like Tywais says stick to hard coding master and slave. The master goes at the end of the cable. "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
