Lite Beer
MRT to change Orange Line route BANGKOK: -- The Mass Rapid Transit Authority has agreed to change the route of the Orange Line from Taling Chan to Min Buri which will spare about 150 residential households from relocation and help save about 500 million baht for land expropriation costs. MRT acting governor Ronnachit Yamsa-ard said the decision to change the route came after former Democrat MP Thana Chiravinit led a group of residents who would be affected if the route remains unchanged proposed a change of the route which would not go through Prachasongkroh, Ma Naew and Phasook communities. He said that his agency had studied the former Democrat MP’s proposed new route and found that it was possible and, moreover, would save his agency about 500 million baht in compensation to be paid to some 150 household owners for the expropriation of their land. The acting governor said that the proposed change of the route for the Orange Line would be presented to participants of a public hearing on the project which was due to be held on November 22.The ex-Democrat MP said that the old route did not correspond with the MRT’s goal to ease traffic. rubl
This being Thailand one may indeed wonder about details of the alternate route and the process. - when was the alternate route proposed ? - which communities are effected with the alternate route and if any are they aware of the request for an alternate route effecting their communities? - how much needs to be reserved for land expropriation in case of the alternate route? - how does the alternate route effect the figures on number of users expected? This is business as usual for the usual suspects. Projects are constructed to benefit the incumbant politicians i.e. PTP and rerouted or cancelled when the opposition gets into power. I alwasy remember the 27kms detour on the motorway to Pattaya so that it could go through a certain mafia figures land.
