Drafting of new charter to begin in New Year


BANGKOK: -- Drafting of the new charter could start after the New Year holidays, drafting committee chairman Bowornsak Uwanno said on Thursday.

He expects the guidelines of the charter to be complete by December 29.

"The drafting process of the constitution should begin when the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) reconvenes after the holidays," he said.

All 11 subcommittees are expected to submit their suggestions to the committee on December 1. From December 2 to 9, the committee will discuss the suggestions and then present its conclusions to the National Reform Committee (NRC) on December 10.

NRC President Thienchai Keeranan said the committee would meet again from December 15 to 17 to compile the reports from the 18 NRC special committees. It is expected that the CDC will complete this stage of its work by December 29 are reconvene after the New Year holidays to start the drafting process.
