More Good Stuff Gone Bad - Sysinternals, Thks Bill

Russinovich now belongs to Microsoft

[Eileen Kennedy, News Writer]

Winternals and Sysinternals, and their well-known technical leader, Mark Russinovich, are now part of Microsoft.

Better download all their free stuff now, before it disappears ... or becomes subject to "WGA".

Well good for him, their web site was already a seven figure (USD) cash machine so he must really be in the clover now. I think Mark's move to Microsoft will make Windows better. But I can't help but think it is a step backwards for him. It was strange reading the blog and seeing how Microsoft treated him like any other joe by making him go through employee orientation program with the other newbie’s. Surely Gates or Ballmer giving him a personal orientation would have been more appropriate. And even though this bit below is good news, he seems just a passenger to what goes on: "I’m pleased to report that Microsoft’s number one priority is not only keeping the tools freely available, but preserving the Sysinternals community including the newsletter, the forums, and my blog."

So I find this move for him a strange direction from marquis entrepreneur to MS employee number x, but a good thing for the future of Windows.
