webfact
PM Prayut asks public not to assume all police to be crookedBANGKOK: -- Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha said the arrest of several high ranking police officers would serve as catalyst to the reform of the Royal Thai Police. He said the Royal Thai Police commissioner has already included several measures to prevent and eradicate bribery in his reform plan. The prime minister also said that the public should not assume the whole police officers to be bad or crooked as the crimes were committed by only one group of police officers. He said as for legal action to take, all those found to be involved would be punished by the law, even if they were high ranking officers. He also said if further investigation implicated to more officers, they would also be arrested.Meanwhile Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) chief says the assets seized from the houses of the former Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) commissioners were derived from money laundering in his linkage with illegal activities involving casino, oil smuggling and bribery..AMLO secretary-general Pol Col Sihanart Prayoonrat said there are more than 10,000 items of assets that have been confiscated from the residence of former CIB commissioner, Police Lieutenant General Pongpat Chayaphan. They included archaeological objects, paintings, luxury vehicles, and gold bars, all of which have not yet been assessed for their estimated values, he said.He said the assets seized have proven that the ex CIB chief violated the anti-money laundering laws.He said AMLO is now investigating to find out who is or are his nominees for money laundering. But he said initial information showed that the former CIB head is linked to oil smuggling and casino operations. He was found to have close connection with an influential oil smuggler in the Thai south, Sahachai Jiarasermsin or ‘Sia Joe’ who was also believed to have financed insurgency in the south. It was believed that the former CB chief was on the top of the oil smuggling network in the South.Source: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/pm-prayut-asks-public-assume-police-crooked -- Thai PBS 2014-11-26

There is much truth in this statement. Not all police officers are crooked. Just the Thai police.
KhunMoo
So is the Military next on the reform list El Generalissimo? That would be great, but some how i doubt it Maybe we need the army to completely destroy Mr. T's power base, then let him back in, to have a good old lash, into the army's-powerstructure......- or just have the same old "Mai Pen Rai" attitude frome everyone.... Lex Talionis
AMLO secretary-general Pol Col Sihanart Prayoonrat said there are more than 10,000 items of assets that have been confiscated from the residence of former CIB commissioner, Police Lieutenant General Pongpat Chayaphan. They included archaeological objects, paintings, luxury vehicles, and gold bars, all of which have not yet been assessed for their estimated values, he said. The Pol Col added that under direct orders from General Prayut all seized assets will be liquidated and the proceeds distributed to all citizens making less than poverty level income. All such are requested to submit their claims to the government as soon as possible. (what planet do I live on?)
arthurboy
If the old bill in my area are anything to go by, then the dear leader is completely wrong. As an example, the local phu yai runs two casinos and a money lending racket. Who do you think runs these 'businesses' and the 'security' they require? Well, it ain't Mickey Mouse or his mates. rkidlad
As corruption is a business model of the RTP, you'd be stupid not think they're all corrupt,

Popular Post SoilSpoil
It is almost impossible to be not corrupt while serving the RTP. If everyone's on the take, those who aren't are seen as outcasts. You either with us or against us.
Popular Post EyesWideOpen
A pretty silly statement by Prayut. The entire system is rotten to the core. To be a part of it you must be rotten too. All positions are bought, therefore you must rake off money to pay back the loan to get your position.

All positions are bought, therefore you must rake off money to pay back the loan to get your position. . Yep. My wife's cousin was accepted on the RTP a few months back. He borrowed 600,000 baht from investors, er, I mean, family, friends, old teachers, and even a monk, to get a good posting after he gets out of what passes, in the RTP, as the police academy.

Maybe that explains the generals statement.

Chang_paarp
How about the RTP demonstrating they are worthy of this assumption. There is an outmoded concept of leading by example.
Popular Post craigt3365
Knowing some police officers personally, I can say not all are corrupt. Many, yes. But not all. Some are very honest and are actually trying to do a good job. Problem is the management. Clean that up and perhaps the RTP can hold their head high again with pride. In the Bangkok Post today, the general says this is his dream. A police force free of corruption. I've got a renewed respect for the man. Especially as he says this is the root of many of Thailand's problems. No links to the Post, please.

JOC
If Prayuth was serious, then please explain to us, how 4 of the most crooked officers in the force were released on bail?? Ofcourse nothing to do with, if they started to "sing", they could take every single highranking officer with them in their fall from grace?? jacko45k
Well they assumed that before and I am thinking recent revelations cemented that view , but of course there are some honest ones.
