Non immigrant dependent visa

Featured Replies

Hi, My son is on depedent visa on my BOI work permit. As I changed my job my BOI visa got cancelled on 15th November but at that time my son was in the US University for studies.. Due to this his dependent BOI visa was also valid 15th Novembe,2014 but cancellation stamp is not there in his passport.

I met the immigration officer at Chamchuri Square regarding this matter and they informed me that my son should take visa on arrival at Bangkok airport (he is not sure as it depends on the officer at the airport)and go to Chamchuri next day to cancel old BOI dependent visa. The officers at Chaengwattana are saying that he has to take new tourist visa in the US and enter Thailand. Now he has no time to do this as he is coming to Bangkok. Please please urgently advise what is the solution. Thanks in advance

He can enter on a visa exempt entry. Just be sure he does not put his re-entry permit number on the arrival card.

And then be sure they don't use the re-entry permit when they stamp into the country.

Many thanks for your prompt reply. I don't quite get what is visa exempt entry. Could you please explain.

A visa exempt entry is the 30 days you get if you do not have a visa. There is no visa on arrival possible unless your son and you are from a country that pays 1000 baht for the 15 days that it allows.

MAny thanks UbonJoe. Both me and my son are Indian citizens so we can get visa on arrival 15 days. But the main problem is that the dependent visa O is still in his passport and not yet cancelled hence not sure if he can get visa on arrival.

You should check to see if immigration has canceled his extension when yours ended. If not you could request they the do it so that it would appear in immigration's database when he enters the country.

I think they would do the VOA even with a valid re-entry permit (not a O visa).

It would of been better to of got him a non-o visa so he could apply for another dependent extension while he is here.

Many thanks once again. They said that they cannot cancel as the person is not in the country at the time of cancellation. However let me ask them once again if they can cancel in their system. He does not need O visa during this visit as he will come only for 15 days. We will apply mid nest year when he comes for 3 months break.
