Why does the Thai govt. make it so hard for me to spend a lot of money in Thailand.

There is a slow moving power struggle going on in Thailand and farangs are easy targets for everyone involved.

Nonsense.

Nope. I think he might be onto something. The effects just go in fits & starts tho' so it's hard to "prove" and even harder to assign specific responsibility. But it shows up on the Internet, in the social media, and by word of mouth, so Thailand pays the price.

How is it easy for other nationalities to access even with right resources to most falangs countries?

Time to stop complaining... If you respond to requirements, things are quiet simple and you can get one year visa with multiple entries for peanuts.

The difference is that "falang countries" are often of high average income and resources, while Thailand is not.

And to "respond to requirement" is just another way of saying "if you're younger than me, or unmarried, go away".

Go away - Exactly what I did as I didn't want to end at the border not getting in while my belongings are in Thailand.

I went away and spend my money elsewhere...

Bye,

Derk

Thais, like most native Asians, are highly xenophobic - IMHO. They are of a 16th century mindset struggling to cope with 21st century technology - technology that they neither invented nor comprehend. So what do they do? They lock the gates and hope the world will leave them alone.

Are Thais any more xenophobic than other nationalities? I don't see many UK citizens welcoming foreigners, particularly those who are looking to settle there.

Yes, I believe they are. The English have a long tradition of welcoming immigrants to their country. It is only recently that their socialist policies have gotten out of hand with foreigners taking advantage of their hospitality.

A tip if travelling to UK. Join the aliens queue. There you can chat to other English speakers. First brief experience alone in up country Thailand was changing buses at Saraburi. No need to worry, was just like Bradford. I was the only white face and I could not understand the language. At least Thailand tries to keep out the huddled masses yearning for benefits.

You can turn up unannounced here can't you?

Try being a Thai citizen and turn up unannounced to your home country and then come back and tell us about how hard thailand is making it for you...

Thai citizen can buy and own land in our home country.

Don't even need to go there.

Try the same here if mum or dad wasn't Thai.

I would think Thailand's immigration laws are no different then other countries:

To separate the desirable from the undesirables(criminals).

To separate the legitimate investors from the money launderers.

To separate the tourists from the ones planning to work illegally here.

At the end of the day I think any country would welcome anyone spending their hard earned cash there as long as it doesn't break any laws.

(Maybe not Thailand though with their full moon parties and shady night life activities)

Yep and in these countries, if you have an accident, you are not sure to pay just because you are a foreigner...and so many other examples & "laws" to welcome us...

Neither are you here 'sure to pay just because you are a foreigner'. Looking forward to your other examples, hope they're better.

Hardly the problem of Thailand if another country chooses to let foreigners buy land is it?

As for the happy accident of my birth...whats that got to do with the price of fish??

You benefit from all these other foreign countries giving you access to that land as well..

As a 'Brit' man, you have the option of living anywhere in the EU, plus have the luxury of having a passport which lets you swan around the world at a moments notice.

Hardly compares now does it?

Ive had the same problem for years in thailand, i work out of thialand but live in thailand, i go to work come back and just spend money, i use to live here on the non O visa, but they changed the rules, now you can only get the visa on arrival 3 times a year or 90 days total,

They stopped the '3 times a year or 90 days total' requirement ages ago.

GDP per capita nowhere near TOP-30.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_%28PPP%29_per_capita

Thailand is number 80, 76 and 95.

Dimtim you should really avoid intellectual discussion because you have zero ability to separate fact from fiction.

How can Ireland have a higher GDP than Thailand? Ireland is saddled with debt and Thailand has virtually zero debt.

I know common sense is hard to come by but try finding some.

Cambodia will take your money...and the only hoops you have to jump through is to fill out a one page visa extension form once a year, attached to $283. And you can do that every year until you die.

Wrong. You can do that at the present time up until they start getting smart ass and shifting the goal posts around like the Thais.

harder is to come to Thailand, more and more the country will sink, and Thailand will remain a third world country, poor and cheap.

Thailand is in the top 30 countries as far as GDP is concerned.

your source?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_%28nominal%29

Nominal national income. Thailand ranks in the top 30 regardless of who is measuring it (IMF, WB, CIA, UN).

There are a lot of rich people in Thailand -- with a lot of money. The problem is the corruption does not allow for it to be distributed based on merit -- more on position and connections.

You have entered the first stage of enlightenment. Stage two get rich or die trying.

And you have zero ability to understand the concept of GDP. It has nothing to do with debt.

Ireland has quite heavy debt load due to bailing out their banks but they are improving. Japan has even greater debt load but still they are outproducing per capita much more than anybody else in Asia except few city states.

GDP stands for gross domestic product.

what it is? it s what a country produce and export too.

debt is based on GDP. it means if a country has a debt of 100% GDP, it means all citizen have to work for free during one year to pay back their debt.

correct me if I m wrong.

All you have done is given a ratio of Debt to GDP.

You don't define whether is is gross debt, or net debt. This is also important.

GDP is simply one measure in national income where GDP = C+I+G+(EX-IM).

C = value of consumption

I = Investment

G = Government Expenditures

(EX-IM) = Net exports.

No debt in that equation.

Ireland has a population of approx. 4 million how can it compare to Thailand?

Thailand, GDP, 2013: 387.3 billion USD

Ireland, GDP, 2013: 217.8 billion USD

Norway: 512.6 billion USD

Thailand with 67 million people produces per capita much less than Ireland. Norway...way up there.

The average Thai salary btw is only 13500 Baht per month.

I've read that Thailand has a shadow economy of about 50%. Just last night, I know my 1,000 baht won't be recorded.............oh, get your mind out of the gutter!!!

I'm no economist, so i won't just add 50% to Thailand's GDP.....but i bet it's nowhere near that number. of course, that means no taxes collected..

sorry, this still won't get you a visa. (what, too soon??)
