Near where I live there is a town called Chonnabot that is famous, in Thailand, for silk weaving and production of silk garments.

Chonnabot has got 7 Wats.

Early, every morning, the monks go out of the Wats and around the town, blessing people and in return collect food or money offered to them.

They are usually in groups of 8 to 10, every group having a leader, usually an older monk, followed by the younger ones.

To avoid any conflict or misunderstanding they have divided Chonnabot in equal parts and they have an agreement not intrude to each other’s territory.

That’s all well said in theory, but in practice, sometimes they don’t follow the rules.

So, what happened the other day, one of the groups was called by an old woman to give their blessings to her and in return they got an envelope with some money.

At the same time another group of monks was coming the same way and immediately accused the monks of the first group of taking money out of their territory.

The first group denies the allegation and a big fight starts.

Both groups are engaged to an epic battle where punches were thrown left right and centre.

The leader of the first group, lands his wooden stick on the head of the leader of the second group and the monk immediately goes down unconscious.

The fight would not stop between the other monks but the people that already had gathered around tried to revive the monk and seen they could not do anything they called 1669 for the ambulance to come.

Anyway, the monk was taken to the hospital where my wife works as an ER nurse and they tried to revive him.

With no luck after an hour they send him to Khon Kaen hospital where, as we learned later, he died of brain haemorrhage.

And all this for 20Baht that the old woman put in the envelope.

I wasn’t present at the scene of the battle but the wife described the story in detail.

And her remark…….It was bound to happen sooner or later the way they divided the town.

As you can see members, there is never a dull moment in Thailand.

There will be a lot of finger pointing as to who will be in charge of this investigation (no will want to be on the investigation committee.) I guess the big stick works to better effect than a amulat, at least for half those involved, this time.

Costas ... that's some serious and disappointing shit that went down.

I've never seen anything like what you have described ... but, at the Farm, we are a long way from the main road.

Has it hit the newspapers yet?

You are our very own TVF Reporter on the spot!

I have no idea if it has been reported.

But there are so many things that go quite and only the local community knows about them.

I hear a lot of stories and incidents from my wife that makes my hair stand up but there is no mention about them anywhere.

I've heard of rapes, killings, domestic violence and other horrible stories.

All swept under the carpet.........especially when money is involved.

I have asked her many times what the police has done about this incident and she doesn't know either.

Probably it will be sorted out between the Wats, involved.

It's already a week that this has happened.
