December 3, 201411 yr What's the usual mrtoad, pikeys, gay jokes, working online must be poker or porn, first the muslims back home and now too many immigrants here to boot, did I mention I have a work permit yet, etc. I'd say on average my posts are more civil than yours (but I haven't read your first sixteen thousand). I don't complain about the regulations I just debate other posters here. Actually I don't want there to be a 'digital freelancer' visa or whatever. And I'd be happy to move to another country if I have to, no ties here, no wife no kids no business. I doubt it'll come to that in the next decade. Edited December 3, 201411 yr by jspill

December 3, 201411 yr I think that sounds rather sad to me......."no ties here, no wife no kids no business.".......I'm filling up !
December 3, 201411 yr So the usual come back Jspill, old, criminals, bitter etc I recall another post where you said working on a tourist visa is ok. I guess, if you like to lurk in the shadows no problem, but don't complain about how unfair the regs are when you feel you don't need to comply. JS, He is a good man, a little Naive and reluctant to take advice from you MrTood. Perhaps you should let somebody like me to explain it to him ?

December 4, 201411 yr Author I just realized that posting my question in this forum qualifies as work. I'm going to turn myself in. If any of you come to visit in the lockup, please bring smokes and 20 baht so I can pay for a space on the floor big enough to sleep on my back.
December 4, 201411 yr Imagine this . . . No more painting and decorating, no more mowing the lawn, no more taking the bins out, putting up shelves, mending the roof, even changing nappies is out of the question. Get your local friendly BIB round to brief the missus on the law. Is that the Thai citizenship test ?
December 4, 201411 yr I think that sounds rather sad to me......."no ties here, no wife no kids no business.".......I'm filling up ! Still in my 20s
December 4, 201411 yr If you have to ask the question... Its work. Even showing someone how to use their phone is work technically. Sent from my c64
December 6, 201411 yr I think that sounds rather sad to me......."no ties here, no wife no kids no business.".......I'm filling up ! Still in my 20s Gosh I remember my 20's in Thailand. Had just got here, hadn't really done anything let alone get any t-shirts... I guess the best part was having absolutely no old buggers telling me what to do. Apart from a one-amed, alcoholic, ex- USAF fly boy that I met in Korat. After several high-octane sessions fueled with a stream of small bottles of Mekhong (I was buying), he implored me, whilst massaging his nub of a right arm, not to make the same mistakes that he had. I said I didn't plan on enlisting and fighting any wars any time soon to which he replied, "Don't be a wise-ass son. I lost this hangin' out the side of a tuk-tuk, high as a kite an' drunk as a coot on my way to get'n' laid in Patpong." Edited December 6, 201411 yr by NanLaew
December 7, 201411 yr Working? back in the UK I was always an earner, never a worker, doing things I am happy at, such as being a musician, and private investigator, over here, three years as a school teacher, you will never in a million years get me to do any heavy manual work, and I am a fit guy, the reason? I just don't fancy it. I suppose working is anything that earns you a living, but there is working, and working.
December 7, 201411 yr Define 'work'. I am not doing physical labor but more creative, entrepreneurial stuff on my laptop. I'm not taking away Thai jobs. I'm adding to the economy. Although not in a huge way.
December 7, 201411 yr Define 'work'. I am not doing physical labor but more creative, entrepreneurial stuff on my laptop. I'm not taking away Thai jobs. I'm adding to the economy. Although not in a huge way. You may not be doing physical labour but you are 'exerting effort' which is the key terminology regards the Thai Labour Office and their definition of work. How do you know you are not taking away Thai jobs? The money you spend on rent, food, beer and skittles is noted. I am sure the Thai Treasury will miss you when you have to leave. Carry on doing what you do 'below the radar' since quite honestly, nobody really cares right now.
December 10, 201411 yr The digital nomad scene makes me laugh sometimes. If you're worried about it being illegal why shout from the rooftops about what you do? I read an awesome (satirical) guide to becoming a digital nomad the other day. http://www.igotmybackpackon.com/making-the-change-from-nomad-to-digital-nomad/ The bit about the hierarchy cracked me up. Tourists > Travelers > Nomads > Teachers > Digital Nomads > Ex-pats .... Edited December 10, 201411 yr by mynameisphil
December 10, 201411 yr sounds like the unions in Australia, before my injury I had a contract at the Penrith leagues club on the renovation/new level work as the painter and decorator, the builders etc had to be in a union and if the labourers were told to remove the rubbish they couldnt take it past the concrete slab as that was where the other union guys had to take it from because it was outside even though there were no walls erected, was hilarious watching them wheel it to the edge of the slab and having to call the outside guys over to wheel it to the rubbish heap then bring the wheelbarrow back so the inside guys could wheel it back to the workers, took ten times as long to do anything , real mind boggling. Seems Thailand operates on the same principles.
