Buy a diamond ring in CR or BK?

Yes, please send me the details of the guy in Mae Sai.

I'm not after anything complicated. Just a simple ring similar to this.

I don't go to Bangkok very often, so a trip just buy one thing would have to be a fairly good saving to make it worthwhile. So, if I can get it in CR, it would be preferable.

Bangkok is one of the major world's centres for the gem trade. Even though diamonds are not mined in Thailand there still is a international market for diamonds in Bangkok.

The best place to go is the Jewellery Trade Centre next to the Holiday Inn on Silom Road. Do NOT go to any of the retail shops on Silom Road but to the Galleria entrance of the Jewellery Trade Centre. Walk around and have a good look around. The shops here service the gem trade and in general are well established businesses that do not rip off tourists.

With a laboratory certified diamond a shop should be able to tell you the value of the diamond based on current international Rapaport table price guidelines. Diamonds are not like other gemstones which are priced according to free market supply and demand. Diamonds have their prices set by a cartel of diamond suppliers based on their 4 C's Carat, Colour, Cut and Clarity. With a lab analysis of the diamond a dealer will be able to determine the market price of the diamond. If you chose to buy the diamond on the high street you will pay a high premium for sure. If you do not get the Certificate you are being ripped off. The cost of the lab analysis is about 2000 baht so why would anybody sell a 100,000 baht diamond without one?

And just to add that if you are buying an expensive diamond maybe you should insist that the diamond is laser cut with its certificated identification reference number. This is number is laser printed onto the girdle of the diamond and therefore generally not visible to the naked eye. However it is a unique identifier for your diamond that can always be matched to its lab analysis at any time in the future.

Thanks 1sickpuppy.

I am after a white diamond ring though.

Just a simple solitaire ring, less than 1/2 a carat.

sorry i dont have any, you could pick 1 up on Ebay for about $100 upward to many thousand $ they have good dealers on there from Thailand & is money back garauntee , if you go to a major store they will rape your ass, you can get gold rings made up many places in Thailand, but you dont want the 96.5% gold that Thais love, too soft go for 14 or 18K, clear diamonds are out of my price range, good luck
