Hundreds of workers who were fired from a Phnom Penh garment factory returned to work yesterday after Phnom Penh Municipal Court filed an injunction on Monday requiring management to reinstate them.

About 80 per cent of the approximately 1,000 employees terminated from Chbar Ampov district’s Huey Chuen factory in September resumed work yesterday, said Fa Saly, president of the National Trade Union Confederation.

Workers lost their jobs after participating in demonstrations supporting better wages and benefits for Huey Chuen employees. “We are happy with the court injunction, but the workers will protest again if they do not get the benefits and wages they demanded,” Saly said.

The Arbitration Council is scheduled to announce their decision on the dispute on December 18.
