A few questions....

Section 5 of the VAF1 form - About your stay in the UK

5.2 On what date do you intend to arrive?

We don't have a specific date yet. We're hoping to get my GF over as soon as .. within a week of the acceptance (god willing!) but it depends on available flights etc.

How do you recommend I answer this?

Section 6 - Your finances and employment details.

6.8 Do you receive income from any other sources?

I sometimes send small amounts to my GF so she'e not struggling. Only small amounts maybe £100 every couple of months - should we declare this on the form? How will it be viewed?

6.10 - How much money is available to you for your stay?

How should we answer this? I'm financing the whole trip.

I reckon that's it for now.... until something else comes to mind.

Oh, one other thing. You know how a lot of places have this dual pricing policy for thai's and not thai's? Does the same apply to flights? Will I be able to get a cheaper flight to the UK for my GF booking from Thailand

1) Put down the date you would like to travel making sure its realistic. Allow time for the application to be received and looked at. In the past my partner has always put about a month later . Don't be paranoid about it , they know that you haven't booked the flight yet (indeed they advise against this).

2) Just declare it . If its been sent to her bank accounts then they will see it on the statements anyway. And in any case its the truth so why lie?

3) Show the amount available to her. That would be the balance of her account , plus any cash she will be holding or travellers cheques , plus any credit cards and their limits if she has any. You will then put in your letter of sponsership how much in addition you will; make available to her during her trip.

4) No, you may get a couple of hundred baht off , but in my experience the agents make little anyway per ticket so there is no wholesale discount available that you couldn't get yourself through cleaver negotiation. As far as i know you will have to book from Thailand anyway. I believe that you always have to buy the ticket in the country you depart from.

It is possible to buy a one way ticket from BBK to LHR with Thai international back in the UK. I did it many years ago with my 1st Thai wife. She picked the ticket up at the Thai service desk at Don Muang.... Doing it this way also ensures the money doesn't get spent on other things :o

Buying a one way ticket is always a bad deal financially as its always more than half a return ticket and as the OP seemed keen to save a few quid i doubt this will appeal to him !! And in any case they would then need to purchase another one way ticket back to Thailand .. no point

True enough, a one way ticket is a bad deal, an open ended return would be more suitable for a visitors visa. My point was that it is possible to purchase the ticket in the UK

Thanks for the reply's guys.

Another question.

If the visitor visa application is successful will it allow her to travel freely within europe?

Thanks

With a visitor visa ,you will still need to obtain another visa for your gf for other parts of Europe in some cases dedpending on where you want go they will advise you at travel agents

Most countries, certainly the Schengen states, insist on people applying for visas in their country of residence, so if a continental trip is planned then the visa(s) should be obtained before leaving Thailand.

Usually a UK visit visa is multi entry, but sometimes it may be restricted to a single entry. Check her visa, as if it is single entry and she goes to Europe she wont be allowed back into the UK.
