Islamic State setting up Libya training camps, US says

(BBC) Islamic State militants have set up training camps in eastern Libya, the head of the US Africa command says.

Gen David Rodriguez said there could be "a couple of hundred'' IS fighters undergoing training at the sites.

He said the camps were at a very early stage, but the US was watching them "carefully to see how it develops".

Libya has been in turmoil since Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown in 2011, with various tribes, militias and political factions fighting for power.

Several Islamist groups are competing for power in the east of the country, with some militants recently declaring allegiance to IS.

Syria connection

Speaking in Washington on Wednesday, Gen Rodriguez said it was not yet clear how closely aligned the trainees were with IS.

It is simply breathtaking the audacity with which America facilitates the very threats that emerge, and which must be responded to. Other threads on TV discuss these points where it was variously argued what "base" IS would have in Libya, or even support. Of course IS has support in Libya. In significant numbers and arms, this is where the US facilitated its rise. This is not conspiracy theory, this is in your face recent history. Every single thing that this administration has touched has turned jihadi; every one!

Sounds like a good place to use daisy cutters.

Aint no daisies in the desert.

Personally I agree with you, the problem aint with the military, its with the politicians who dont have the balls for it.

Stinks of Vietnam all over again, the military cant operate to full capacity.

Som nam na, a stable country blown to pieces by Nato all in the cause of an "Arab Spring" that never happened.

What the West would give now for the good ole days when we had "puppets" that knew the rules, Iraq, Egypt, Libya etc, not one of them ever caused us a problem.

Isn't Enola Gay in service anymore ?

It seems the whole Libya debacle perfectly fits the term - "Blowback". It is such an embarassment to politicians they almost never mention it anymore, and it somehow makes the 11 years in Afghanistan look like some semblance of success in comparison.
