Popular Post CM4Me
A sad day when Aust Network/AustPlus ceased broadcasting. However, not all is lost. Many programs are available via the internet, legally. They are usually not available till late at night (Thai time), some you can watch thewhole program non-stop (like the drum), while others show each topic separately. Also some (like Q&A) are finished for this year http://www.abc.net.au/catalyst/ http://www.abc.net.au/insiders/ http://www.abc.net.au/news/thedrum/recent-episodes/ http://www.abc.net.au/news/abcnews24/programs/the-world/ http://www.abc.net.au/lateline/ http://www.abc.net.au/tv/qanda/ http://www.abc.net.au/7.30/ http://www.abc.net.au/news/programs/the-business/ http://www.abc.net.au/landline/default.htm

Ulysses G.
I thought it was useless for non-Australians. I would bypass it every day for years to get from one news channel to another and never saw anything worth stopping for. However, I understand that it was worthwhile for Aussies. Evilbaz
OZ+ have changed to a new satellite. I have given the data to my cable provider but they don't seem to accept that I could possibly know more than them! So they gave me CNN instead - great for AFL - yeah right. Sparkles
I thought it was useless for non-Australians. I would bypass it every day for years to get from one news channel to another and never saw anything worth stopping for. However, I understand that it was worthwhile for Aussies. For 2 of my American friends living in Florida it was one of their favourite channels after me suggesting they give it a try. One of them has just booked a trip "down under" to see some of the places she had seen on a travel show. It also had one of the very best "Learning English " programs which was a must see for many Asian students One of the big bitches, with our newly elected Government, is that they promised pre election no cuts to the ABC. Soon as they were elected they cut it.....well they are politicians. Like all things in life if you don't try it you will never know !
Popular Post cmsally
I have minimal time to watch TV but the Aus Network channel was just about the only one I watched on my cable service. Watched some of the series and dramas as well as some documentaries and news programmes. Now there is nothing for me to watch.

Sparkles
Australia Plus: True visions channel 170 still running, what's the problem!! Well its a problem if you only have CTH .It disappeared off the screen right after the coup ,made a brief re appearance and then died courtesy of the Oz Gov cut backs. And Australia Plus is not the full ABC programming we had before ,just a diminished substitute.
xen
The Murdoch Government's response is if Rupert can't run the ABC then nobody can have it . Watch for further cuts until we have hillbilly television only. A bit of an extreme statement i know but i am p#s# ed off with this .
johnmcc6
The ABC and it's totaly biased reporting sucks. Unless of course you are a left wing socialist who can't stand to hear any conservative viewpoints. Not one single conservative reporter. The ABC dwarfs Murdoch in it's size and reach. Big cuts to the billion dollar a year organisation? What a joke. It is peanuts to an outfit that large. Anyway, just thought I'd throw in my opinion to stir the pot. Always good to hear the feedback for a little fun.

That, the sports , AFL, Landline and business programs have no left wing bias! I see OZ+ is back up - no True visions here. But feel free to rant on 555! Rancid
The ABC is largely left wing nonsense but it balances the Murdock right wing stupidity. Watch them both and you can then recite either noxious totalitarian viewpoint. Funny how both philosophies claim to be so different but in reality are all too similar. Always, coalition voters are slightly more in numbers. I think they purposely stack it in favour of coalition voters to negate the perception of bias. Always good to hear the feedback for a little fun. Of course you are right. The ABC should have been replaced by Fox News ages ago then we could have got some unbiased reporting. And of course the ABC dwarfs Murdoch in it's size and reach. Which makes it a might big organization as in Australia alone Murdoch owns 70 per cent of the print media and globally is the largest media organisation. Andrew Bolt for PM, I say (couldn't be any worse). Oh, and the last one out turn off the lights.
johnmcc6
Murdoch papers have 35 percent of total circulation and Own zero tv or radio stations. This furfy that murdoch has 70 percent of the market is more left wing urban myth making
Sparkles
Why does this discussion have to degenerate into a political debate on whether Murdoch or the ABC influence the public? We all have our own opinions but the important fact is Australian expats and a huge swag of people throughout the world have lost a valuable "window to the world" for Australia. Many shows were a great advertisement for Australian tourism, agriculture and investment along with a huge potential market for students furthering their education at Australian Universities through its Learning English program.Don't underestimate the latter many teachers throughout Thailand found it highly rewarding for their students. Shows like Four Corners,Foreign Correspondent ,Late Line etc were multi award winning programs In a word the axing of the network was a DUMB decision to save peanuts, around $40 million which is the same amount we have just blackmailed Cambodia with to take refugees heading in open boats for Australia. Channel News Asia, another excellent channel, is fully funded by the Singapore Government because as a spokesman said recently it bring enormous investment into Singapore as it portrays a country that is a modern, progressive and keen to do business. Pity our bonehead politicians, from the right side of politics ,in Oz, don't have have the same vision.
cmsally
Couldn't care a less about the Oz politics. Is there any other way we can watch ABC. There is pretty much nothing worth watching now on WeTV so what are the alternatives? Don't want True , too much money for too many repeats. This furfy that murdoch has 70 percent of the market is more left wing urban myth making Murdoch has 65 per cent of the circulation in daily newspapers in capital cities in Australia. Fairfax, the next biggest, has just 25 per cent. Murdoch owns 14 of the 21 metropolitan daily and Sunday newspapers. He also owns a large swag of suburban and rural titles. When I lived in North Queensland I had access to four daily newspapers and one local - all owned by Murdoch. And that is no Furphy. (For those non Aussies: Furphy's were water cart manufacturers and the Furphy water cart in the outback was a bit like the office water cooler for gossiping. Hence a rumour or fictitious story was called a Furphy). Edited December 8, 2014 by Saan

It still is nothing compared to the ABC's numerous web sites, radio stations and television outlets with not one conservative host. To think Murdoch somehow controls the Australian politics is silly when you consider both rudd and Gillard managed to run the show for several years in spite of his leanings the other way.I personaly don't really care . But it would be nice if they adhered to their charter and evened things out a bit?
