bkkmick
Hi I'm moving a site from http to https. I was wondering if I need to 301 all the http pages to their https versions? Necessary or not? Cheers Mick

draftvader
Oooh. Don't forget to do that for both with and without "www".
bkkmick
Thanks vader. Interesting article. I'll write some code to generate the 301 lines to include in our htaccess file. Cheers Mick
IMHO
Be careful with 301's - they tell search engines that should delete the original URL from their indexes. IMHO, The best way to handle this is by using simple canonical tags. Canonicals are 100% safe, because they instruct search engines what your preferred URL for the page is, without eliminating other URL's they might currently be indexing.
