Commerce Ministry discusses with companies on trade strategy

BANGKOK, 9 December 2014 (NNT) – The Ministry of Commerce has held a joint conference with private companies regarding the direction of trade strategies in 2015 to push Thai exports to grow by 4 percent.


The Minister of Commerce Gen Chatchai Sarikalya revealed after the conference on ‘Thailand’s 2015 Trade Strategy’ that the Ministry has ordered all Thai Commercial Attache and the related agencies to look for new markets in new cities with buying potential for Thai products.

He said that the Minister has also asked the private sector to provide discounts for their products in the New Year’s trade fair on 24-30 December 2014.

The President of the Board of Trade of Thailand Issara Wongkusolkit has said that this conference aimed to reform Thailand’s international trade in the long term by enhancing the value of the products, promoting of researches, and pushing Thailand as the trading nation in the region.

For the industrial sector, the Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries has said that the Ministry and the private sectors had set up two joint committees to promote export and cope with export and import related issues.

He said that both sides are now finding new markets to substitute the market lost after Thailand had loss its GSP privileges.

Meanwhile, the private sector had called for the related authorities to negotiate with the European Union to extend the GSP privileges which is due to expire by this year’s end, and to gear up FTA negotiations with other nations.
