Car orders at motor show drop below target

BANGKOK: -- Although this year's motor show reveals drop in booking orders, but overall market will see a normal growth with 900,000 vehicles to be sold.

Executives of Honda, Mazda, Suzuki were optimistic of the car sales although admitted the industry was still affected by the previous first car buyer scheme.

But they still believed sales of 900,000 cars could be achieved, which represented normal growth.

However all agreed the industry will see recovery next year, and a growth of 5% is expected.

Meanwhile Thailand’s International Motor Expo 2014 ended Wednesday with car booking orders totalling 42,000 cars throughout the 12 days of show, missing the organiser’s target of 50,000.

The expo was held from November 29-December 10 at Muangthong Thani.

Inter Media Consultant’s chief executive Kwanchai Papaspong, organiser of the event, said car companies at the show received total booking orders for 42,000 vehicles, below his target of 50,000.

But he said that although the figure was below target, but it remained higher than last year’s booking order of 41,000 cars.

The figure was satisfactory for him and car companies at the show under the recessed auto industry since mid last year, he said.

Latest figure showed car sales so far was down 38%, he said.

He also disclosed that sport utility vehicles or SUV cars showed sign of increasing popularity with several car manufacturers now turning their eyes more on this car segment such as Honda which introduced its latest model the HRV and received highest booking for the segment.

But he said small cars of prices ranging from 500,000-700,000 baht were still affected by the previous first car buyer scheme which had fetched advance purchases, and those who made hire-purchases deals still have to pay in installments for another 3-4 years.

For those who have stopped paying installments, and abandoned their cars also have no purchasing power for new cars, he said.

However he said car companies are stimulating the market with more sales promotion campaign which could help a bit to activate the market.

But he said the segment of medium cars with prices slightly over a million baht remains active same as the upper segment cars like Mercedes which received satisfactory response with booking orders higher than last year or 1,122 cars.

He said Mercedes grows 18% this year while BMW also received booking order for 800 cars at the show.

Big Bikes market also showed satisfactory growth with 2,293 orders led by Honda, 494 vehicles.

Don't worry.

Next week there will come an announcement that sales will increase next year.

Right after the Khon Kaen F1 race in 2015.

Oh, they already said sales will increase next year. Line 2, 900,000 cars. Line 3, 5% growth.

Every good announcement in Thailand is about something that's going to happen, even if what's happening is bad.

What happened to the "First Car Buyers Tax Rebate?".

My sister-in-law bought , and paid in full, a new car in October 2012 . In November 2013 she received 50% of the rebate due but since then nothing.

I know that there were comments made earlier this year that all outstanding payments would be cleared by end of June 2014 but today she has received nothing further.

Call Helicapter Ben from America. He is needed to drop bushels of bahts all over the country. Consumers here are tapped out like everywhere in the world. Banks are tightening lending rules. Poof where will the bahts come from.

I noticed Nissan offering 5 year 0% credit deals in our local area yesterday on cars and trucks. What they need to do is bring down prices by at least 20% as vehicles in this country are way overpriced. Not the Thai way though, more likely to increase them by 20% the dumbarses !

Love the logic

Car orders drop at the show where most discounts and offers are offered, but will grow next year, because people prefer to pay more and get less.

Undisputed logiclaugh.png

Orders didn't drop:

"Inter Media Consultant’s chief executive Kwanchai Papaspong, organiser (sic) of the event, said car companies at the show received total booking orders for 42,000 vehicles, below his target of 50,000."

But he said that although the figure was below target, but it remained higher than last year’s booking order of 41,000 cars.

Orders went up by 1,000 vehicles, or 2.4% increase from last year. The results weren't at "his target" of 50,000. Which must include bikes.

If the show was a month or two later and the price of gas lower, sales might have been higher.

I think the posters are referring to other news on here that says that exports and domestic sales of cars are down significantly.

Of which how many have approved finance or have any hope of paying it back ?
