Freak explosion at power plant kills two
The Nation

Two workers were killed after an air compressor at a power station in Nakhon Si Thammarat's Khanom district exploded on Thursday, district police chief Pol Colonel Kasemsuk Nakornwilai said yesterday.

"The explosion has been put down to a technical fault," Kasemsuk said.

He said initial findings showed that the force of the explosion propelled the lid of the air compressor on to Jaran Khanom, a 38-year-old man, fatally injuring him and wounding three other workers nearby. The injured were taken to Khanom Hospital.

"Because of the unforeseeable nature of this accident, the relatives of the deceased have decided not to press charges and technicians are working hard to identify the cause of the explosion," he said. He added that this explosion was the first of its kind and a high level of safety was maintained in all electrical power stations.

One of the workers identified as Kriangsak Boonyasin, 40, succumbed to his injuries in hospital, while the other two are still in hospital but appear to be out of danger.

I assume the manufacture of the equipment will be part of the investigating team. After all they know more about their equipment than any "Technician" ever will

No relief valve? Or maybe that was welded down? I shudder to think what would happen if nuke reactors were here. Is there a Thai word for "maintainence"?
