Govt. to forge forward with its human trafficking eradication campaign

BANGKOK, 13 Dec 2014, (NNT) - The Government has invited various international human rights watch organizations to observe Thailand’s current anti-human trafficking measures, after the United States dropped the country to Tier 3, the lowest ranking for its efforts to tackle the issue.

The invitation was extended by Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan during the 2nd conference on human trafficking prevention and eradication with related units, during which the Minister reiterated the Thai Government's seriousness in handling the issue.

According to him, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has a stringent anti-human trafficking plan, one that specifically hands down harsh punishment to officials who take part in the crime.

Interior Minister General Anupong Phaojinda said the Thai government would continue its efforts in tackling the issue by establishing working committees in local areas, with provincial governors heading the units.

Meanwhile, Minister of the Social Development and Human Security Police, General Adul Seangsingkeaw, expressed his confidence that Thailand would receive higher ranking in its human trafficking eradication efforts after it has shown significant progress in dealing with issue.

It looks like the US doesn't believe in empty promises from a self appointed PM.

May be the Thai people should take a lesson from that.

It has nothing to do with a self appointed PM. It has everything to do with real progress. The report this week of bribe paying to immigration officials and the police up north for trafficking didn't help. It was the army that caught the guy and he fessed up to the bribes.

Since there has been NO progress as of yet and since Thailand has become famous for corruption on every level and since 99% of crimes committed by anyone in a high position gets caught it seems to me that putting new laws about human trafficking are only good to show a good face.

Several times the Gov has stated that they cleaned up the fishing industry only to have men wash ashore after escaping from a boat and swimming for days. None of the companies or Captains got arrested by my knowledge.

The world and the USA will not believe a piece of paper. They will want to see in time that Thailand is serious about following through on enforcement of their new laws.

Of course it hasn't anything to do with fact that the PM is self appointed, but more with the fact that he has issued a lot of empty promises so far.

Government launches tough suppression on human trade

BANGKOK, 13 December 2014 (NNT) -- The Thai government has vowed to step up its cracking down on human trafficking, with focusing on officials involved with those rings.

Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Pravit Wongsuwan said during the second meeting of the national committee on human trafficking prevention and suppression that the Thai government would implement tougher laws on trafficking cases.

Earlier, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-Ocha ordered suppression on corruption among government officials, those who are involved with trafficking rings would face stern punishment, according to Gen. Pravit.

Meanwhile, Gen. Anupong Paochinda, the minister of Interior said he had ordered every province to set up a prevention and suppression committee to fight local human trade.

Pol Gen Adul Saengsingkaew, the minister of Social Development and Human Security, also expressed his confidence that Thailand's situation in relation to human trafficking would soon improve and the country's ranking on the issue would definitely be upgraded.

A good start might be by the government accepting responsiblity for past actions, and moving forward, rather than trying to suppress through defamation lawsuits:

Just the army taking over the turf. wai2.gifwai.gif

Gang warfare.

"It has everything to do with real progress."?

Right.

I'll believe that when the coup leader/self-appointed PM stops obstructing "progress":

“A few days ago, Prayuth appeared angry when Thais demanded the government increase transparency.”

“I beg you not to dig up anything. There is no benefit in so doing.”

“I must say that you cannot do that for the time being.”

Nothing better than to see honesty and give due where it is due, it takes stupidity to bring this up during Human rights week, goes to show that Tier 6 would still be too low, but it is heartening to see something is being done even if it is very little.bah.gif

So massage parlours don't count? And what is happening to the pineapple king and prosecution of that entity? And not to say anything about the prosecution of navy personal? I can then understand the 'empty promise' tag, as there was exposure but nothing else said.

Maybe asking the excellencies to define what 'human trafficking' means to them would clarify the situation. My guess is that 'illegal migrant workers', such as from Burma or Cambodia, so just a few million people, should not be taken into consideration, as otherwise most businesses would take a serious nose dive here, and the immigration police's 'tip box' be desperately empty... So, business-as-usual then? I, sadly, think so, once more: 'a lot of talk, but no action'... This an integral part of Thainess too, just not inside General Prayuth's (I call him so, because that ... can't come from a PM) '12 Thai Values', that's all...

The Thais are inviting, wooing, and luring. They perceive those actions will reverse the world's perceptions of their human rights trafficking and racketeering activity.

..........now add "forge" to the vocabulary.

Right. They are most certainly always "forging."
