confused about apartment terminology

I've been looking at some apartment rentals in Chiangmai. It seems that what's advertized as a 1br is really a studio. A 1br is supposed to have a separate room for sleeping (i.e., 2 rooms), but this doesn't seem to be the case from many of the photos I've been looking at. Can somebody straighten me out?

From what I can tell the terms studio and 1br are used interchangeably here. Even if the bedroom is a "separate" room, in many cases it's basically a studio with half of a wall that makes the "bedroom" separate. There seems to be a big gap between the 35-40 sqm apartment category and the 90 sqm apartment category with very little to be found in the middle.
