Hello all,

I am holding 1-year non-o marriage visa (married with a Thai man and dependent on him). Now, I find a job and the company can make the work permit for me.
My question is can I hold my non-o marriage visa to apply for the work permit? Or I need to change it to non-B first?

Thank you in advance.

It seems that it's up the the labor office. There have been past reports that a few labor offices, a very few, would not issue a work permit to someone with an extension of stay for marriage, but most will.

Back in 2009 I was working with a valid work permit and had an extension of stay for retirement. I had an extension for marriage that was about to expire, got my income affidavit from the embassy, and went to apply for a new extension. I forgot the Kor Ror 22 form but had enough income to qualify for retirement and the immigration officer recommended that I do the retirement extension, easier for her and definitely easier for me. She knew that I was working and told me that when my WP expired if labor wouldn't renew it come back with the proper paperwork and she would cancel the retirement extension and process a marriage extension. I never saw the outcome as I quit before the WP had to be renewed. So I had a valid WP and worked for 6 months on a retirement extension.

Can confirm that Sakon Nakhon labour office will NOT issue a work permit with non-o. I have had a marriage visa for over 5 years but recently had to change to non-b to get a work permit. There is of course no such rule, but unfortunately we are at the whim of these "special" officials.

Please check with your local labour office to see what their rules are today. Your local office (in the province where you will be working) is the only one that can issue your work permit.

interesting. so a non O with marriage allows a work permit. That makes sense. But a non O based on retirement can't get a work permit.

But if you are retired than you would not be working anyway!

Not quite correct. I could be retired from my USA job, but perhaps enjoy teaching or applying my engineering and math skills in Thailand on a part time basis. Retirement can be boring, but a nice option
