Chinese passenger opens emergency exit 'to get some fresh air' as plane prepares for take-off
But the airline won’t be penalising him as he’s a first-time traveller and didn’t do any damage

HONG KONG: -- An airline passenger on board an internal flight in China sparked a safety scare by yanking open an emergency exit just before a plane was due to take off to "get some fresh air", according to reports.

The passenger, on board the Xiamen Air flight from Hangzhou to Chengdu, caused amazed fellow travellers to take a series of snaps on their mobile phones, which were later posted on social media.

The airline’s maintenance team rushed to fix the safety door and the flight took off on time, Hangzhou airport staff told the Southern Metropolis Daily.

Passengers' photos showed the middle-aged man wearing a blue hooded coat - a first-time flier - poke his head out of the open door, as a stewaress looked on.

“It’s my first time seeing a passenger open the safety door,” one photo circulated online was captioned. “He told the attendants he just wanted some fresh air … hope our flight won’t be delayed for too long.”

Sunday’s flight saga triggered heated debate on social media, with many microbloggers saying the man should have been fined for posing a safety risk to other passengers.

But the airline said it did not plan to penalise the passenger as he had not meant any harm.

“It was his first travel by air,” an airline staff member told the paper. “He did not cause delay or any other direct loss to the airline.”

Lower fares, a country producing a middle-class...means a different class of traveller.

No doubt someone FARTED

Person should be banned from flying. Who cares if it's his 1st time flying. Did he not pay attention to the pre flight safety instructions from the cabin crew? Numpty

So was he kicked off? Or sat back down and continued on?

Dear Mr/Ms Journalist: this is called, in literary terms, "resolving the conflict."

Beneath all the overpriced real estate. Beneath the Tofu bridges, roads, railways, and buildings. Beneath the empty ghost cities and mega construction projects. Beneath the intentional poisoning of baby formula and other foods with substitute ingredients in order to make every last penny. Beneath the toxic devastation of rivers, lakes, and forests. Beneath the encroaching desertification. Beneath all of that lies 500 million or so uncouth, uneducated Chinese newbies with a little money in their pocket who are ready to brawl on airplanes, trash hotels, attack airline personnel, and open airplane exits in mid flight. These are the people who will reverse Chinese corruption and make China into the 21st century's superpower. Right.

Why were the cabin crew not assuring all passengers were seated with their seatbelts fastened?

well lets look on the positive side of this - the plane was still on the ground blink.png

''The toilets are at the other end of the plane Sir!''.........''Oh fank yu fank yu, I was won-door-wing where the outhouse was!''.

Opened the door cause he couldn't find how to wind the window down. Shouldn't be allowed out of their homes, never mind out in public.

Or at least moved to a different part of the cabin well away from emergency exits.

Strange as I heard this was on landing and taxing to the gate when the doors could have been disarmed - would not be possible after doors had been shut and armed after leaving stand.

First-time flyers should not be seated in an Emergency Row!

Emergency doors cant be opened once the wheels are up, this wasn't the case here

After reading this and previous stories, the Chinese should not be seated anywhere on an aircraft !!

I have to agree, but looking at IQ states of Europe for instance some countries have less as others.

If was AirAsia I wouldn't blame the man for not hearing the special announcement made for the passengers seated at the emergency exit rows. I fly AirAsia at least twice a month for the last few years and always sits at the emergency rows because of the extra legroom and not having the retards in front of me reclining the seat to the maximum. (Though it is very amusing to see them spend 5 minutes trying to make them recline before giving up ^_^ )

Like 9 out of 10 announcements are made by someone with a really heavy accent as quickly as possible rattle of the instructions, this at the same time their horrible we're-still-on-the-ground music is blaring loudly from the speaker located just above row 12.

A few times when I'm the only one sitting at the two rows they look at me and I give them a thumbs up and they just go away...

My guess is that it's even worse in China.... Areoflot in the mid-80'ies was definitely worse. On several flights passengers was standing up in the aisles during takeoffs and landings still fiddling with their luggage in the overhead bins. (Insert relevant "In Soviet Russia"-joke here....)

I flew to Udon Thani and back to BKK and was wondering about this type of incident. Can those doors be open during mid flight ?

Scary stuff , I am always very aware of my surroundings on a plane since 911. Kept my eye on a couple of young men changing seats during the flight. I wonder what I would have done to those two Chinese pieces of sh...t that disrupted that plane. beatdeadhorse.gif

That seems very unlikely to me. You really think you're not able to open the emergency doors if the landing gears hasn't deployed - like on a water landing or some other mechanical failure?

The usual stated reason for not being able to open the doors while in the air is the pressure differential between the cabin and outside air. You're simply not strong enough to open the door.

U.N.<deleted>.B.E.L.I.E.V.A.B.L.E! Please keep them in China.

Don't you think bringing up the 'quality' tourists is getting a bit old and BORING? Move on phil

What are you talking about? Pre-flight safety instructions never mention not to open a door before the flight takes of.
