Not as far as I know but then again you don't need to know how to drive a boat to get the license.

The same goes for cars & bikes :)

Arent boats a 'Thais only' affair?

not at all

ive had boat licence for many years

you will need one to get your vessel insured

however doubt you could use this licence in any other country

There are no laws on Samui, so anything goes.

Until it goes wrong then all of a sudden there are laws and it's about to go very wrong. If you are going to drive a boat you should get a license (same as car or bike) at least the op is trying to do the right thing!

I've held one from home for decades but I have yet to see a ferang at the helm of the sort of boats that schuttle tourists around. Divers/'moonies' etc. This is what I meant by Thai only although I could be wrong. Edited by evadgib

You need a commercial license for that.

Same as with car, mine says private car.

This means I can not drive tourists around.

And as non Thai I can not get a commercial license.
