December 22, 201411 yr Hello all, Need recommendations for a mechanic that has some sense and proper tools for removing The Mother of all locking lug, broken key , socket stuck, driver broken off in it - problems If ever a lesson was learned about getting what you pay for... Needed to get the brakes checked on an aging import the dealership won't go near. The mechanic at one of those boulevard tire places, when removing a wheel used an airgun set to screw on and stripped the McGard lock " tooth " off the key so it was stuck inside the groove on the lug rendering it flush so even the spare key won't grip it. So googles looked up how to get it off, put a socket on it ( wish I'd known 6 star not 12) so mechanic pounded a socket on very tight, then broke off the driver in the socket. To finish it off he used a large drill to make sure it was all twisted to the right as tight as possible. I had suggested a reverse drill bit. So desperately seeking mechanic. Thanks in advance for any recommendationsWish I'd seen the you tube vid on how to just use a chisel to twist off a locking lug nut in the beginning.
December 22, 201411 yr No problem , this is Thailand. Have a GOOD welder weld on a large , solid round bar onto the remains. Then a lever can be welded onto this - presto. If the welder uses Mig ( electric ) instead of gas , disconnect the battery , due to current surges. Good luck.
December 23, 201411 yr Another idea to consider is to grind (cut) of the whole nut, stud included, and them hammer out the remaining part of the stud with a punch. You will be up for a new stud and nut, but they are cheap.
