District Officers conduct Fire Inspection of South Pattaya entertainment venues

PATTAYA: -- As Pattaya prepares for the New Year festivities, local authorities are conducting detailed fire inspections of entertainment venues around the City to ensure that all possible safety precautions are taken should an incident occur inside any of the venues.

Khun Komsan, the Governor of Chonburi Province, ordered the inspection which began on Sunday Night on Walking Street in South Pattaya. Khun Amnat, the Chief Bailiff of the District led the inspection, which concentrated mostly on the large capacity discotheques.

Fire Extinguishers and fire exits were checked and at the end of the inspection some irregularities were found. The venues were told to make urgent changes otherwise they would be subject to temporary closure orders.

If this initiative is really serious such inspections would have been started many weeks ago. With only two days or so left before the new year there is no time left for venue operators to carry out any "necessary modifications". The usual payment will ensure that any venue not up to scratch will not have the temporary closure notice issued.

On-going inspections, both announced and unannounced, by qualified fire inspectors seem to be in order.

What the Governor or Chief Baliiff know about fire safety is unknown to this reader.

What about Lucifer disco for instance? When the fire breaks out, it will be a deathtrap.

Presumably they are aware of what the regulations are that need to be adhered to and perhaps the other members of the team that they led know something about fire safety.

The article didn't mention that they are aware of such regulations or their qualifications. It also did not make mention of the other members of the team. What was noticeable was no mention was made of anyone from public safety/fire department on the team.

I try not to presume was is not written or stated otherwise.

It seems nice that they made an inspection. Avoiding any fire, such as the Royal Jomtien Resort fire of 1997, is paramount.

TukCom is a death trap with the management renting out the corridors, especially near the entrance.

In an emergency, there will be a crush of dead bodies piled up.
